The laughter inside the Pokémon Center slowly faded into a warm silence. Lily stood near the doorway, her backpack secured on her shoulders while Amaura and Happiny waited eagerly at her sides. The afternoon sunlight poured through the entrance, illuminating the path that stretched beyond Ambrette Town
Nurse Joy stepped forward one last time and adjusted the collar of Lily's traveling cloak.
"You're all set," she said softly.
Lily nodded, though her throat tightened. "I'll come back and visit whenever I can"
"I know you will"
For a moment, neither of them moved. Then Nurse Joy pulled Lily into a gentle embrace. "Take care of yourself, sweetheart"
"I will, Mom"
Behind them, the townspeople gathered outside the Pokémon Center. Grant folded his arms with a proud smile, while Officer Jenny stood beside Arcanine, who wagged its tail happily. Even Chansey dabbed at its eyes with a towel
"Come on, Lily!" one of the neighborhood children called. "Bring home lots of badges"
"And catch a cool Pokémon!" another shouted.
Lily laughed through the tears gathering in her eyes. "I'll do my best"
She took a deep breath, then turned toward the road leading out of town. Amaura trotted to her left, Happiny bounced to her right, and together they stepped forward.
After a few steps, Lily stopped and looked back.
Nurse Joy stood in front of the Pokémon Center, waving with a trembling smile. The sight made Lily's chest ache with both sadness and happiness.
"Thank you… for everything," she whispered.
Then she faced forward and began walking again.
The road from Ambrette Town soon opened into the vast rocky expanse of Route 10. Towering stone pillars rose from the ground like ancient guardians, and winding trails stretched between cliffs weathered by countless years of wind and rain. In the distance, several Rhyhorn resting along the rugged path.
Lily slowed her pace, taking in the scenery with wide eyes.
"It's so beautiful," she murmured.
Amaura chirped in agreement, its frills fluttering gently in the breeze.
Happiny spun around excitedly. "Happi! Happi!"
Lily smiled. "This is really happening, isn't it? We're finally on our adventure."
Amaura bumped its head lightly against her hand.
"Haha, okay, okay. No getting emotional yet. We've barely started"
The three continued along the trail, the sound of crunching gravel accompanying their footsteps. Wild Pokémon occasionally peeked out from behind rocks. A group of Sandile basked lazily in the sun before scurrying away when they noticed the them walking by. Farther ahead, a Helioptile perched atop a boulder, its frills absorbing the sunlight.
Lily instinctively reached for her Pokédex.
The device beeped and displayed information.
"Helioptile, the Generator Pokémon, Normal/Electric type" the Pokédex announced. "The frills on either side of its head have cells that generate electricity when exposed to sunlight."
"Wow…" Lily said. "I've only seen pictures before."
The Helioptile tilted its head curiously, then darted away across the rocks.
Happiny clapped excitedly.
"Maybe we'll meet one again later," Lily said.
As they climbed a gentle slope, Amaura suddenly stopped and looked ahea
"Ama!"
Lily followed its gazed...
A small Skiddo stood beside the trail, nibbling on a patch of grass. Its ears twitched when it noticed them.
"Oh!" Lily whispered. "A Skiddo."
The Pokémon didn't seem frightened, only curious. It took a cautious step closer.
Happiny waved enthusiastically. "Happi!"
Skiddo blinked, then bleated happily.
Lily crouched down. "Hi there. Don't worry, we're friendly."
The Skiddo sniffed the air and approached another step. Amaura lowered its head calmly, showing no sign of aggression. After a tense moment, Skiddo relaxed and rubbed its cheek against Amaura's neck.
"Aww," Lily said. "Looks like it likes you!"
Amaura gave a pleased cry.
For several minutes they simply sat together, enjoying the peaceful encounter. Then Skiddo suddenly perked up and bounded back toward the hillside, disappearing among the rocks.
Happiny looked disappointed.
"It's okay," Lily said. "Wild Pokémon have their own journeys too."
The afternoon sun grew warmer as they continued deeper into Route 10. Eventually Lily found a shaded clearing surrounded by stone pillars.
"Let's take a short break."
She set down her backpack and handed out berry snacks. Amaura happily munched on an Oran Berry while Happiny sat beside Lily, swinging its tiny feet.
As Lily drank from her bottle, she noticed several smooth stones scattered around the clearing. An idea formed in her mind.
"Hey, how about a little training before we set out?"
Amaura immediately stood up.
"Happi!" Happiny jumped, vigorously nooding it's head.
Lily placed three stones on a nearby ledge. "Amaura, let's practice Aurora Beam. Try to hit the middle stone without touching the others."
Amaura focused, cold energy gathering around its mouth. A shimmering rainbow of light burst forward and struck the center stone perfectly, coating it in sparkling frost.
"Yes! Great job!" Lily cheered.
Amaura beamed proudly. <( ̄︶ ̄)>
"Now Happy," Lily said gently. "Let's try Copycat on Amaura."
Happiny puffed up its cheeks and stared at Amaura. It opened its mouth, and a faint rainbow-colored glow flickered inside. A tiny beam shot out—but turned sideways and froze a bush instead.
Happiny frozed. (´⊙ω⊙`)!
Then the bush slowly toppled over with a crackle of ice.
Lily blinked...
Amaura blinked...
"Happi…?" Happiny squeaked nervously. (๑•﹏•)
A second later, Lily burst into laughter. "That was amazing! Not quite the target, but you actually copied the move!"
Happiny's eyes widened. "Happiny!!"
"You did it!" Lily said, scooping it into a hug. "Did you see that, Amaura?"
Amaura chirped excitedly and nuzzled Happiny.
The little Pokémon's nervous expression melted into a huge smile. "Happi!" ୧(^ 〰 ^)୨
"Let's try once more," Lily said. "This time, focus on the middle stone."
Happiny nodded determinedly. It watched Amaura carefully used the Aurora Beam again, took a deep breath, and released another shimmering beam. The attack wobbled through the air before striking the center stone with a burst of frostiness.
For a moment, everyone stared...
Then Lily jumped to her feet. "Yay you did it!"
Happiny squealed with delight and bounced in circles while Amaura stomped happily beside it.
Lily laughed so hard that tears formed in her eyes. "I'm so proud of both of you."
After the training session, they resumed their journey. The sun had begun its slow descent, painting the cliffs in shades of gold and orange.
As they were about to go, they heated a voice behind them.
"Hello, there!"
Lily looked up in surprise.
A young Trainer maybe about her age riding a Rhyhorn below him. He wore a dusty brown cap and carried a hiking pack.
"Hi!" he called. "You're traveling to Cyllage City too, right?"
Lily nodded cautiously. "Yeah. I just started my journey today."
The boy grinned. "Really? Same here! Well, kind of. I'm from a ranch farther down the route. Name's Theo."
"Lily," she replied.
Theo glanced at Amaura with obvious admiration. "Whoa, is that an Amaura? That's so cool!"
Amaura gave a polite chirped.
"And this is Happiny," Lily added.
"Happiny!" (。•̀ᴗ-)✧
Theo laughed. "Nice to meet you both!"
He adjusted his backpack and pointed down the trail. "The road gets steeper ahead, but there's a great lookout point before the entrance to Cyllage City. You can see the whole valley from up there."
Lily's eyes lit up. "Really!?"
"Yep. I was heading there now."
"Can I come?" Lily asked.
Sure! The more the merrier!"
For the next stretch of the journey, they walked together, chatting about Pokémon, training, and their dreams. Theo talked about wanting to become a famous Rhyhorn racer someday, while Lily shared her fascination with fossil Pokémon and her hope of meeting Professor Sycamore one day.
As the trail climbed higher, the rocky walls gradually opened up. A cool breeze swept across the path.
Then they reached the lookout.
Lily stopped in awe.
Far below, nestled between towering cliffs and lush greenery, stood Cyllage City. Stone buildings climbed the mountainside in terraces, and the massive cliff-face Gym overlooked the city. The evening sun bathed everything in a warm amber glow.
"It's incredible…" Lily whispered.
Amaura and Happiny stared wide-eyed at the city lights beginning to flicker on. (・o・)
Theo grinned. "Told you it was worth the climb!"
Lily tightened her grip on her backpack straps. Her heart pounded with excitement.
This was it.
The first city of her journey.
The place where new adventures, new friends, and countless possibilities awaited.
She looked at Amaura and Happiny, both gazing at the city beside her.
"Well," Lily said with a bright smile, "shall we go see what Cyllage City has in store for us?"
Both cried out eagerly.
Together, they will take their first steps toward the glowing city below.
