Chapter 44 - Overhaul the Trash

I tilt my head as I walk through the doorway, my new thing left safely outside, though still damaged. Why am I tilting my head? Because I'm pretty sure I just tore the bastard's arm off, and yet I can currently see him with both arms still firmly connected. A quick glance back and… yep, there's his arm, lying on the ground. I look back at the bastard as he gets to his feet, his eyes glaring murder over his beak mask.

I blink.

"Did you get shorter?"

He doesn't answer, instead reaching into his pocket and withdrawing a phone that he taps twice before bringing it to his ear. "Chronostasis. We have an intruder. Bring the Bullets… and the prototype."

I raise an eyebrow, idly wondering if he means actual bullets or if he's trying to be dramatic by naming a group 'Bullets'. Either way, I decide to wait for this 'Chronostasis' guy to show up. This bastard is going to suffer for what he did to my thing, and what better way than by destroying everything he might care about? Sure, I could just burn everything to ashes, but that doesn't deliver the same level of despair to people as physically tearing them apart.

I cross my arms and tap my foot impatiently, zoning out to stop myself from getting annoyed and just tearing Bastard's head off right now. Or setting him on fire. Though I suppose I can always just put the fire out before he dies in that case…

Thankfully it doesn't take long for more people to show up, six of them having some variation of Bastard's beak mask, one with a basic medical mask, another with a plain full face mask, and the last… wearing a sack with holes for his eyes. I tilt my head curiously at the discrepancy. Aren't people in a gang supposed to all have the same theme? I guess with them, they just care about covering their faces…? Or maybe it's a quirk thing for them?

Oh, Bastard's hands are twitching, did I miss something? His eyes look mad, was he saying something? I wasn't listening, and his mouth is covered so I can't see his mouth moving either. So… I'm gonna go ahead and say that it's Bastard's fault that I missed whatever monologue he'd done for his 'bullets' showing up.

I let out a large yawn. "So, is this everyone important? I'm going to be annoyed if I have to go hunting for people after I kill you all."

Again, nobody responds, though one of the big guys chuckles, the one with a white t-shirt. What I get instead is the guy in a white lab coat or trench coat or whatever raising a gun and shooting me. I just give the man an unimpressed look as the projectile makes a small sound at the impact point before dropping ineffectively to the ground. "Did you really see that going any differently?"

T-shirt laughs at my question, and the other Bullets start talking to each other. I mostly ignore that, though the blonde complaining about how he can't steal anything from me since I'm naked amuses me. Bastard, meanwhile, crouches down and puts his somehow-reattached hand on the ground. Stone spikes erupt in front of him, charging in a line directly at me. Which is incredibly stupid.

A quick growth of my wings followed by a single flap and I'm hovering over the spikes Bastard sent at me. I do my best to give him an even less unimpressed look than I gave the cloak guy, because, really?

I'll be honest, I was curious about their quirks, but I'm already bored with this. Not to mention I have a unicorn to take home. I once again ignore Bastard even though I do hear him talking this time, instead flapping my wings to launch myself at cloak guy, because why not. He tried to shoot me. My wings are strong enough that I'm in front of him before anyone can react and I let claws and scales grow from my hands and reach for him. He activates his quirk, which creates some weird yellow bubble around the group, but my claws pierce through it easily, shattering the whole thing and letting them dig into his shoulders as I angle myself upwards.

I make sure to hold tight to the screaming and squirming man as I fly higher, bringing myself to a stop… high above the compound. He's gripping onto my wrists tightly, some kind of hair mutation lashing at the air but not touching either one of us. Assuming what he used earlier was some kind of barrier quirk, I wonder how his mutation affects it? Oh well, he had a chance to show it off, but it's too late now as I shift my upper body and lift him up, my draconic mouth opening wide.

His screaming gets louder and shriller, his struggling more frantic, and now his hair is whipping at me and he's trying to pry my claws out of his shoulders. But it's all fruitless since they stop after my fangs close around his neck. I don't even have to jerk my head back to separate my snack from the rest of the body, chewing slowly to see if the hair not currently falling to the ground will add any special taste. It doesn't. So, shrugging again, I release the body and decide to race it to the ground after I swallow. Obviously I win, but I'm going too fast to really land 'safely' and end up cratering the ground.

…As well as the big guy who didn't have any sleeves. Oops? I was hoping to tear his arms off! I give his face a scratch with my talons, but he doesn't react despite the blood welling up from the trio of long cuts.

I glance to the side and see the blonde who mentioned stealing trying to run away, so I breathe out a quick burst of flame that manages to engulf him the same moment that cloak guy's body crashes to the ground behind me. I shoot a quick glance over my shoulder to see if it landed on anyone… and have to blink when I see Sackhead hanging from my tail by his teeth.

…Now that I'm paying attention, I think I can feel a bit of pressure on it. I'm pretty sure he's grinding his teeth to try and get through my scales? I push it to the side as unimportant and turn to look at the remaining minions of Bastard.

Mask guy has his head thrown back and is chugging booze… for some reason. The second big guy is hopping from foot to foot and banging the sides of his fists together like an excited kid. The bald guy is covered in crystals and is standing in front of Bastard and a guy who looks like a plague doctor, and the last in the kimono… is face down on the ground?

"Hey," I say to the big guy, pointing at the guy I'm positive I haven't done anything to yet, "what happened to him?" The big guy shrugs.

"Dunno. When you broke his barrier he passed out, so that probably has something to do with it?"

"…I thought the cloak guy was the one with the barrier quirk?"

Big guy shakes his head as he stretches his arms across his chest. "Nah, his quirk had to do with his hair, but enough about those weaklings!" He sets himself in a fighting stance, one hand held up in a guard and the other pulled back over his shoulder in preparation for a straight punch. "Fight me!"

"I mean, I was already doing that?" Technically, at least. For me it's more punishing Bastard. Judging by his wide-eyed stare as he looks at his dead minions, it's working. But I guess I can let this guy think of this as a fight if it makes him feel better. Unlike the others he seems fun. I'm still going to kill him, but he seems like a fun guy. "What's your name?"

I can hear the smile in his words. "Kendo Rappa." That's all he says before he charges at me with a roar of challenge, and I shrug. I keep my posture relaxed, deciding on a whim to allow the man to get a hit in. Though I'll be very disappointed if he doesn't make it count.

Moments before he throws his punch, I'm distracted by the doctor speaking. "Who are you!? Why did you come here?!"

I feel something wash over me, trying to get me to speak, but I don't fight it. Why would I? It's not like I have anything to hide. He's rude, yes, but I'm already killing him because of his boss, so adding on rudeness as a reason to kill him doesn't change anything. "I'm Izumi, and I was looking for a store selling phones."

Rappa's fist slams into my face, but in the split second before impact, I'm positive that I see the plague doctor fall over from surprise.

I grunt as I feel a strong force slamming against my face… as well as at several other points on my body. They're strong enough that I'm sent skidding back to crash into the wall of the building, and I even have to widen my stance to stop myself from losing my balance and being launched. Not that it hurt or anything, but after I stretch my neck out and feel it crack, I can at least honestly say, "Impressive." I give him a sharp toothed smile. "I actually felt that."

The man lets out a boisterous laugh, and I end his life quickly, my claws compressed into a single point to pierce his heart before he can even realize I've moved. He looks down at me and coughs up blood that leaks from his mask. "Damn." I spread my claws out, tearing his heart to pieces inside his chest before withdrawing it. He sways for a moment, one arm coming up at a ponderously slow pace, but he topples forward without the energy to throw it. It bumps me on the way down, though, and I can acknowledge that he was determined enough to enjoy the fight to attack even after his death. Maybe…

I shake my head. Later. For now I flick my tail, launching Sackhead at the drinking guy and watching as they crash to the ground together before breathing out another burst of flames so they can burn together. Which only leaves the doctor, and Bastard. Both of them are staring at me, though I can only see Bastard's eyes are wide, Doctor's hidden behind the goggles of his mask.

I point at them, bouncing my finger between them with each word I speak. "Eenie. Meanie. Miny." My finger lands on Doctor, and I grin again. "Moe."

Before I can end him, Bastard reaches out and slaps his hand against his chest, and he suddenly vanishes into a shower of swirling blood and gore that obscures Bastard from view. When it clears, he's larger than he was when I first saw him, which only confirms that he had become shorter since he entered the compound. In addition to his extra height, he's also sporting a second pair of smaller, skinnier arms.

He honestly looks kind of stupid, but it reaffirms my previous thought that his quirk relies on his hands to use. Double the hands means double the security in case I decide to start ripping them off, I guess?

Too bad for him I decide to skip to the end, my unicorn is waiting for me, after all! A quick flap of my wings and I'm out the door, leaving Bastard's headless body to crumple to the floor behind me. I look down at her wide eyes and hanging mouth before dropping Bastard's head at her feet.

"I told you, Unicorn. Compared to me? He was terribly weak."

She looks from the head then back up to me a few times, seemingly having trouble coming to terms with the fact that Bastard is dead. "You can keep that, if you want," I suggest as I turn around to face the compound. I take a deep breath before letting loose, bathing it in enough flames that I expect everything to be a pile of ash by the end of the day. Another turn, and my leg is engulfed in a one-armed hug as the girl thanks me over and over again. I just pat her head, since it was only natural for me to punish them for damaging what's mine.
