Chapter 395, Ambush on the Guild
Boom, boom, boom~!
Thunderous explosions erupted, with fire, wind, lightning, and thunder blasting continuously in the courtyard.
The members scrambled to dodge, looking utterly disheveled.
Immediately after, several figures appeared in their view.
They stood at a distance, staring at the guild members.
Sheila Grey held her sword in one hand, her cold gaze fixed on the enemy, though her heart sank into despair.
A large group of pirates surrounded the farmhouse, their numbers filling the entire area. As she scanned the scene,
She spotted several faces from the guild's wanted posters.
Six level-15 professionals, with the remaining ones also appearing on the wanted lists as level-10 offenders.
What a grand lineup.
Just how deep is this grudge?
For so many pirates to band together.
Just to ambush us?
Is it even worth it?
...
The pirates scanned the front lines.
Their gazes finally settled on the figure clad in bone armor, standing behind two skeletal minions.
A man in a religious robe, holding a book, smiled faintly and spoke softly, "Kill them all. Leave no one alive."
Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh~!
Arrows were released, and the pirates charged toward their targets.
Their actions were coordinated, their objectives clear.
In the blink of an eye, the guild members and the pirates were locked in fierce combat.
Among them, four level-15 professionals immediately targeted Wu Heng.
"They really hold me in high regard!"
Wu Heng watched as his assailants closed in, lightning crackling in front of him.
Sizzle~!
A silver-white lightning serpent suddenly struck out, hitting the lead silver-armored pirate.
The pirate's body was flung backward, crashing into a low wall behind him.
Electricity spread across his body, leaving him convulsing.
In the other hand, Wu Heng held a submachine gun and was about to fire when several lit grenades were thrown from a distance in the dark.
He quickly retreated, and his original position was engulfed by the grenades' fiery explosions.
Regaining his footing, he scanned the scene.
Among the pirates was a short gnome, puffing hard on a pipe as he lit another grenade.
The gnome, small in stature, held two black grenades, one in each hand.
Damn, a demolitions expert.
Wu Heng raised his gun and fired twice at the gnome in the distance.
The gnome nimbly dodged, moving like a monkey with the grenades.
Meanwhile, several other figures were quickly closing in on Wu Heng.
A pugilist wearing knuckle dusters, a rogue wielding dual daggers with agile movements, and a ranger shooting arrows from afar.
Arrows whistled through the air, providing cover for the two melee fighters as they approached.
Truly, they think highly of me.
Clang, clang~!
The skeletal Keramu swung its longsword, deflecting two arrows.
Its Skull-Crusher turned toward the advancing rogue and pugilist.
Wu Heng's peripheral vision quickly scanned the battlefield.
The warrior hit by [Lightning Beam] had gotten back up. The demolitions expert had already lit a fuse and was continuously throwing grenades of various effects around the area.
Explosions and thick smoke filled the courtyard, fire and wind intertwining.
The pirates had accounted for everything.
Staying here would only drag everyone down to their deaths.
If it came to that, even if Wu Heng survived, Sheila Grey and Kavina would be in grave danger.
He had to break through the situation and escape the trap they'd set.
A thought flashed through his mind.
Wu Heng aimed at the charging enemies and the ranger shooting from afar, firing bursts of bullets.
The shots forced the opponents to retreat under a hail of gunfire.
Then, Wu Heng turned and began to fall back, putting distance between himself, the battle zone, and the two skeletal minions.
His movements caused an immediate reaction among the pirates.
The pirates targeting him exchanged glances and began pursuing him.
Meanwhile, Sheila Grey watched as Wu Heng and several pirates disappeared. Her expression changed drastically.
She didn't believe for a second that Wu Heng was fleeing.
The pirates' primary target was always him. His retreat was a deliberate act to draw away their main forces.
And indeed, that was the case.
In an instant, five level-15 pirates were pulled away from the battlefield.
This gave the guild members a brief respite.
However, even with two skeletal minions, they were still outnumbered by the pirates.
Without a safe environment to cast spells, a mage becomes as fragile as a lamb.
"Fall back and defend. I'm going to help him…," Sheila Grey said, a glowing circle appearing under her feet as she leaped high into the air.
Just as she was about to follow, she caught a glimpse of a figure charging at her like a cannonball.
Sheila Grey swung her sword in a horizontal slash, clashing with the figure before leaping back to create distance.
A man in a religious robe looked at her and smiled, saying, "Deputy Steward Sheila Grey, worry about your own situation first."
Sheila Grey's eyes narrowed. "Captain of the Devil's Hand."
"That's me!"
...
Wu Heng steadied his breathing. With 30 points in agility, he could maintain a swift pace.
Even the rogue and ranger chasing him couldn't catch up for a time.
Only the ranger's trained beast remained in pursuit, hovering in the air and keeping him in sight.
Seeing the distance between himself and the battlefield grow,
Wu Heng began to slow his running pace.
He waited for the pirates to approach.
Once he confirmed the hidden enemies were indeed these pirates,
his heart grew unexpectedly calm.
It wasn't like facing hidden enemies, where the unknown made him anxious and unsure.
With the enemies identified, he only needed to handle them carefully, using the trump cards he had accumulated.
Whoosh, whoosh~!
Arrows shot toward him from the rooftop behind.
Wu Heng slowed for a moment, dodging while turning to fire bursts from his submachine gun.
The ranger quickly crouched, evading his line of sight.
Then Wu Heng shifted his aim, firing at the demolitions expert.
The demolitions expert rolled into an alley, dropping an unlit grenade on the ground.
Looking at the bullet holes in the stone nearby, he wiped sweat from his brow.
Meanwhile, three figures appeared one after another from both sides of the alley, surrounding Wu Heng.
A silver-armored warrior with a burned chest snarled, "You're pretty good at running, kid."
"Did I kill your fathers? Why go to such lengths to ambush one Deputy Steward?"
"Can't help it. Your head's worth a lot," the silver-armored warrior replied.
"Only 500 gold coins? How about I give you 500 gold coins instead, pardon all your past crimes, and we call it a day?" Wu Heng adjusted his aim as he spoke.
As he spoke, the ranger reappeared on the rooftop, and the demolitions expert picked up his pipe, puffing on it twice.
"Hah! Do you take us for fools?" The silver-armored warrior sneered and turned to the others. "Kill him. Make it quick."
With that, he charged forward with his greatsword, followed by the pugilist and rogue.
The ranger drew his bow, and the demolitions expert lit a fuse.
They were going all out.
Wu Heng moved without hesitation.
He cast [Death Aura], dark clouds of negative energy forming overhead and dimming the moonlight.
Slinging the submachine gun over his shoulder, he pulled out two grenades, removed the pins, and hurled them forward.
Unlike the fuses, these grenades exploded within seconds.
Boom, boom~!
The explosions sent shrapnel flying in all directions.
The charging warrior was thrown back again, coughing up blood.
The skeletal Keramu braced against the ground, casting [Cloud Mist] to shroud himself.
His form vanished instantly, reappearing behind the ranger.
The ranger, sensing danger, crouched quickly, narrowly avoiding losing his head to the skeleton's longsword.
Rolling forward, the ranger drew two daggers and charged at the skeletal minion.
Skull-Crusher hefted its war hammer and engaged the pugilist head-on.
Each swing of the hammer shattered bricks and sent electric currents snaking outward.
Meanwhile, the demolitions expert laughed maniacally. Just as he tossed another lit grenade, he saw it stop mid-air.
A wraith slowly appeared in front of him.
"A wraith? Why is there such a damned thing here?" the demolitions expert shrieked.
Then he watched as the wraith sent the lit grenade back toward him.
The fuse burned rapidly.
"Damn it, this necromancer!" he cursed, turning to run.
The wraith, still holding the grenade, chased him relentlessly.
...
Clang~!
Wu Heng activated [Latent Potential], his veins bulging and his eyes bloodshot.
Kicking off the ground like a mad bull, he charged at the rogue behind him.
The rogue, also rushing toward Wu Heng, frowned.
A mage charging at a rogue? This was a first.
Yet he felt a flicker of excitement.
If he killed Wu Heng, he'd have more leverage when dividing the spoils.
With that thought, he sped up, closing the distance between them.
As they drew near, the rogue leaped, his daggers aimed at Wu Heng's throat.
Clang~!
The next moment, metal clashed loudly.
The rogue's expression changed dramatically. The force from Wu Heng's blade nearly knocked the daggers from his grip.
What the hell?
A mage?
With such strength?
