Chapter 37 - ch.36

Aetherion stepped through the portal, his feet touching the familiar ground of his sanctuary. The air here was thick with the energy of the Primordial Flame, and the flames that once burned in the altar had been rekindled, glowing with radiant white and rainbow hues.

He looked around at his followers, who were gathered outside the sanctuary, their faces etched with uncertainty. Aetherion felt their confusion immediately. They didn't recognize him. His transformation had been so drastic—his once fiery wings had become a halo of creation, his hair had turned pure white, and the crown atop his head shifted colors like the flame itself. To them, he was an entirely new being.

Whispers spread through the crowd.

"Who is that?"

"Where is Aetherion?"

"Is this a new god?"

Aetherion smiled softly, sensing their hesitation but not surprised by it. He had become something far greater than they could have imagined.

Before the murmurs of doubt could grow, Elyon, the High Priest, stepped forward. His eyes, though filled with awe, were steady. He had always been connected to Aetherion, and even now, in his new form, Elyon recognized his god.

"It is him," Elyon said, his voice calm but firm. "Do not be afraid. He has returned to us."

Saphiel, the High Priestess, was beside him. She had been trembling with uncertainty, but as soon as Elyon spoke, she too stepped forward, her heart steadying as she gazed upon the radiant figure before them. "This is our god. Aetherion has ascended. He is the flame reborn."

The other followers looked uncertain, but Sol, the Priest, was the final to step forward. "Our god has taken a new form, one beyond the divine. We must trust in him."

As the priests spoke, the followers' hesitation began to melt away. They looked at Aetherion with new eyes, their awe growing. Their god had returned, but he had come back as something greater than before.

As the crowd murmured in reverence, a loud screech echoed through the air. Aetherion turned his gaze upward to see Astralis and Celestaris, the two divine eagles that had long been by his side, descending from the skies. But something was different about them.

As they landed, they did not remain in their eagle forms. Instead, a flash of white light engulfed their bodies, and as the light faded, Aetherion saw that they had transformed. Astralis and Celestaris no longer resembled giant birds—they now stood before him in human form.

Astralis, now a tall and muscular man with glowing white hair and piercing golden eyes, bowed before Aetherion. His presence was regal, his power palpable. "Master," he said in a deep voice, "we have returned."

Beside him, Celestaris, a graceful woman with long silver hair and shimmering eyes that reflected the colors of the rainbow, knelt. "We are bound to you, Aetherion. As you evolved, so did we."

Aetherion was taken aback for a moment, his eyes wide with surprise. "You've… transformed?"

Before Aetherion could ask further questions, the system spoke, its voice calm and explanatory. [Your eagles, Astralis and Celestaris, are bound to your soul. When you transformed into a Primordial and reshaped the flame, they evolved alongside you. They are no longer just divine beings; they have become Primordial Eagles, creatures of pure creation energy.]

Aetherion nodded, understanding now. "So they've become something like me," he mused aloud, looking at his transformed companions. "Primordials in their own right."

[Indeed,] the system confirmed. [They are now Primordial Eagles, with the ability to shift between their eagle forms and human forms. They are bound to you and share in the power of the Primordial Flame.]

Aetherion smiled softly at the two. "You've grown stronger, just as I have. Good. I will need your strength for what's to come."

Aetherion turned his attention back to the gathered followers, his gaze sweeping over them. The sanctuary had been a place of hope, but it was clear to him now that they needed more. They needed homes, places to live and grow as a community.

"The first order of business," Aetherion said, his voice calm but filled with authority, "is to provide for my people."

He glanced around, then asked the system, "Can I use this power to create buildings? Homes for my followers?"

[Yes,] the system replied. [With the Primordial Flame, you can create anything. Buildings, landscapes, cities. The flame will respond to your will.]

Aetherion nodded, stepping forward. His followers watched in silence, unsure of what he was about to do.

Aetherion raised his arms wide, summoning the full power of the Primordial Flame. The ring of fire that surrounded his body flared up, growing brighter and more intense. The ground beneath his feet began to tremble as the flames surged outward, spreading across the landscape.

For a moment, the entire area was engulfed in blinding white and rainbow-colored flames. His followers gasped, watching as the flames moved with precision, carving into the earth, reshaping the land, and filling the air with the power of creation itself.

When the flames finally receded, the landscape had been completely transformed. Where once there had been open fields, there now stood magnificent buildings—tall, elegant structures made of shimmering white stone and crystal. Homes, halls, and temples, all perfectly designed to house his people.

The followers stood in awe, gazing at their new homes, their new city. Aetherion lowered his arms, his eyes glowing with satisfaction. "This," he said softly, "is your new home."

The followers, still stunned by the display of power, fell to their knees in reverence. They had always known Aetherion was powerful, but this... this was beyond anything they could have imagined. They had witnessed the creation of a city, born from the flames of their god.

Elyon and Saphiel approached Aetherion, their faces filled with awe. "You have given us more than we ever thought possible," Elyon said, his voice trembling. "We are forever in your debt, Aetherion."

Aetherion looked at them and smiled gently. "You are my people. I will always provide for you."

The chapter ends with Aetherion standing before his people, the flames of creation still flickering around him. He has given them a home, but there is still much to be done, and many challenges yet to face.
