At the dinner table, Mikoto, wearing an apron, served a bowl of rice to Tōshirō.
Tōshirō thanked her and complimented her. "Mikoto, you truly have the demeanor of a wise and kind wife and mother."
Mikoto sat down next to Fugaku, her smile gentle. "It's just simple food; it's nothing special."
"You're too humble..."
Tōshirō picked up a piece of fish, tasted it, and found the flavor to be excellent.
Mikoto, concerned about Sasuke, asked about his training progress.
While eating, Sasuke mentioned that Tōshirō was teaching him the Rasengan.
"The Rasengan?" Fugaku's eyes showed a hint of surprise. "Tōshirō, you're teaching Sasuke that jutsu already?"
Tōshirō said not to worry. "Sasuke is very talented. I believe he can learn it."
"That's not what I mean. He's too young to learn that jutsu. After all, it's an A-rank jutsu, and not a normal A-rank one at that."
"Don't worry. I'll be watching him, so nothing will happen to him. Don't forget, I also know a bit of medical ninjutsu." Tōshirō said, as he performed the Mystical Palm Technique, a fluorescent green light swirling around his hands.
Sasuke heard their conversation. Although his father was speaking the truth, he still felt a little uncomfortable.
Aside from anomalies like Itachi, most children's unhappiness would show on their faces immediately. Even though Sasuke tried his best to hold back, Fugaku still noticed it.
"If Itachi were this age, I wouldn't have a problem with you teaching him the Rasengan, but Sasuke is still too young."
Fugaku shook his head, practically writing his disapproval on his face.
These words were meant to motivate his son, but they were also a statement of fact.
Fugaku knew very well how difficult the Rasengan was.
"I'm full..."
Sasuke, feeling emotional, put down his chopsticks and left the dinner table. Mikoto called out to him a few times but couldn't stop him.
Mikoto gave Fugaku a resentful look. "Honey..."
Fugaku said calmly, "This is for his own good. He'll understand when he grows up."
After that, he continued eating as if nothing had happened.
Mikoto, unable to stand it, took his bowl away, not letting him eat.
Fugaku: ???
Mikoto, holding Fugaku's bowl, stood up. "I'm going to go check on Sasuke."
"You're going to check on Sasuke, so why are you taking my bowl?"
Mikoto ignored him and left the room.
Fugaku sighed helplessly.
Tōshirō teased him. "You've made Mikoto angry."
Fugaku: ...
Tōshirō inwardly complained that with a parenting style like this, it was no wonder his eldest son was growing distant from him.
But this was their family's business, and Tōshirō didn't want to interfere too much. This was something they would have to realize on their own.
Fugaku exhaled and stopped thinking about it. His expression became serious. "In two days, there will be a meeting at the Naka Shrine. All eligible clan members will be there."
Tōshirō hummed in affirmation. He knew that he also had to be there to show his stance.
After dinner, Tōshirō found Sasuke, who was training hard. Mikoto was watching him from the side with a worried expression.
"Mikoto, you should go back and rest. You can leave this to me..."
"But..."
"Don't worry. It's a teacher's duty to care for the student's mental well-being."
"Then I'll leave him to you."
Mikoto glanced at Sasuke and then left.
Tōshirō watched him for a while. "If you bury your head in training like this, you'll hurt your body."
Perhaps Tōshirō's words had an effect, as Sasuke stopped training and took a few breaths. "Tōshirō-sensei, what do I have to do to awaken the Sharingan?"
Good question...
Tōshirō fell silent.
He was in such a hurry to awaken his Sharingan, likely because of Fugaku's stinging words.
Sasuke watched Tōshirō's expression. When he had asked his mother how to awaken the Sharingan earlier, she had the same pained expression.
"You don't have to listen to Fugaku. Just be yourself..."
After saying this, Tōshirō suddenly realized something and changed the topic. "Forget it... Everyone's situation is different."
Sasuke's face lit up. "So you're saying you're willing to help me awaken my Sharingan, Tōshirō-sensei?"
"I'll ask you one more time. Do you really want to awaken your Sharingan?"
Tōshirō stared into Sasuke's eyes and said meaningfully, "Even if it means you might have to pay a price?"
"A price?"
"Yes."
"What kind of price?"
"I can't tell you that."
Sasuke didn't understand. "Why not?"
"It's a necessary condition to awaken the Sharingan."
Sasuke fell silent for a moment, thinking about it seriously. He then nodded solemnly. "Please tell me how to awaken my Sharingan. No matter what, I want to gain my father's approval."
Sasuke's thoughts were very simple. If he could awaken his Sharingan, his father would probably have a different view of him.
Tōshirō sighed. "Alright, go get your dog, Kuroko."
Kuroko was Sasuke's pet Shiba Inu. He was called Kuroko because of his dark, round eyes. He had grown up with Sasuke, and the two had a very deep bond.
Sasuke looked confused. "What does Kuroko have to do with awakening the Sharingan?"
Tōshirō said mysteriously, "You'll know when the time comes."
Under that smiling face, Sasuke didn't know why, but he felt a little creeped out.
"What are you waiting for? Don't you want to awaken your Sharingan and gain your father's approval?"
These words stirred the wavering Sasuke. After making a big claim earlier, he could only muster up his courage. "Wait for me."
Tōshirō said with a smile, "I'll be waiting."
Sasuke ran home and found his dog lying in the yard.
He called the dog's name, and Kuroko, who was lying on the ground, immediately raised his head and wagged his tail, trotting over to Sasuke.
Sasuke bent down and patted Kuroko's head.
Kuroko looked at his young owner, his mouth curled into a smile, which, combined with his round eyes, was very cute.
"Let's go..."
Just as Sasuke was about to leave with his dog, he ran into Fugaku, who was coming into the yard. He was a bit startled. "Father..."
Fugaku glanced at Sasuke, then his gaze moved down to the dog. "Sasuke, where are you taking Kuroko?"
Sasuke wanted to give his father a big surprise by awakening his Sharingan with Tōshirō's help, so he lied. "I'm taking Kuroko for a walk..."
Fugaku's expression was calm, and he nodded slightly.
Since it was the first time he had lied to his father, Sasuke felt a little guilty. He secretly breathed a sigh of relief, said his goodbyes, and left.
Looking at the two of them leaving, Fugaku squinted his eyes. He thought that Sasuke should be training hard right now.
He didn't believe that he was just taking a walk.
Fugaku quietly followed them, intending to find out what was going on.
Normally, he would just pay a little attention and not put too much effort into it. But since his wife had just complained to him, a middle-aged man sometimes just has to give in.
When he quietly followed Sasuke to his destination, he saw Tōshirō waiting there.
He wasn't too surprised by this. Perhaps out of curiosity or because of his wife's complaint, he watched for a little longer.
The next thing that happened was very ordinary. Tōshirō was playing with his son and his dog.
Seeing this heartwarming scene, Fugaku, who was hiding behind a tree, showed a rare smile. Just as he was about to leave, something shocking happened.
"Alright, you can open your eyes now."
Hearing this, Sasuke slowly opened his eyes with a confused look. The image that came into view was of his sensei, Tōshirō, holding his puppy by the neck with one hand, while a turbulent river flowed below.
Listening to the pained whimpers of Kuroko, who had been his companion since childhood, Sasuke's eyes widened in shock, and his voice was urgent. "Tōshirō-sensei, what are you doing? Let go of Kuroko! You'll hurt him if you keep doing that!"
Tōshirō showed a sadistic smile. "Hehe... I'm not just going to hurt him, I'm going to kill him."
