Chapter 388 - A Goddess Dwells Within These Scarlet Eyes

"Look at me!"

Sakura's voice echoed across the chamber, the sound bouncing from wall to wall until it seemed to gather in overlapping layers, resonating in Shinnō and Amaru's ears. Just as the doctor was about to sink onto his throne, at the foot of which his disciple lay, half-conscious, he halted and glanced over his shoulder, as though some unseen pull had turned his gaze for him.

Seeing Sakura's broken form still lying helplessly on the floor, her chin pressed between her two pillowy breasts, he shook his head with a scoff and looked back towards his stone throne, only to realise that he was still staring straight at the young girl.

"Audio-Visual Genjutsu?" Shinnō said haltingly.

But how could that be? He had opened the equivalent of five of the Eight Inner Gates. An unfathomable volume of dark chakra, tinged with negative emotions, was coursing through his system at a rate that defied belief, making it all the more impossible for any Genjutsu practitioner to seize control of the chakra pathways within his brain. The Gate of Opening and the Gate of Healing, both seated within the brain, ought to have ensured exactly that!

Shinnō gritted his teeth and stemmed the flow of dark chakra he accepted from the Zero-Tails.

While the Body Revival Jutsu he had devised could be used to build up his physique to its present condition, the simultaneous use of dark chakra, the Eight Inner Gates Formation as well as the Body Revival Jutsu was rather like the act of walking a tightrope.

The three components each fed into the next in a positive cycle: Body Revival Jutsu strengthening his cells in preparation for the Eight Inner Gates, the Gates quickening the flow of dark chakra, which in turn fed back into the Body Revival Jutsu's cell activation, which meant that if the flow of his chakra was impeded, his Tenketsu blocked, or if anything beyond his control disturbed his pathways, his body would face a brutal backlash, should the infinite self-strengthening cycle spiral into chaos.

"You worm…" growled Shinnō, his musclebound physique deflating somewhat. "How dare you impede the Sky Emperor's work…"

His voice trailed off.

"What are those eyes…?"

The Sharingan he knew possessed one to three tomoe, yet the pink-haired girl's eyes had none. The pattern in her eyes had become five-fold rather than three-fold, resembling the Oda clan's emblem in the way it suggested a flower… the cherry blossom!

"Ame-no-Uzume!"

Crimson blood trickled from Sakura's scarlet left eye.

In Shinto tradition, Ame-no-Uzume-no-Mikoto is the goddess of dawn, mirth, and dance. Her tale is closely bound to that of her direct superior, Amaterasu, the goddess of the sun, whose power rests within Sasuke's left eye.

Once upon a time, Amaterasu grew furious with her brother, the storm god Susano'o, and hid herself within the Heavenly Rock Cave. As goddess of the sun, she thus deprived the world of light, casting it into darkness. One by one, the other kami tried to reason with her or coax her from her seclusion, but all failed… until it was the goddess of dawn's turn.

When all else failed, Ame-no-Uzume began dancing at the cave's entrance, where the other gods had gathered. Amused, the kami laughed and clapped. Uzume began removing her garments as she danced, exposing her breasts, and the gods' delight and hilarity grew with each movement. Hearing the commotion outside her hiding place, Amaterasu finally exited the cave to see what all the fuss was about, and thus the sun returned to the world.

Just as Ame-no-Uzume had wished for Amaterasu to witness her performance, so too had Sakura's innermost hidden desire been for Sasuke to notice her, which was why this power, above all others, had blossomed within her left eye.

The Zero-Tails had, albeit unwittingly, artificially awakened Sakura's Mangekyō Sharingan ahead of time by possessing her and amplifying her negative emotions. Subconsciously, her power had erupted uncontrollably when her stress reached its peak, when Shinnō threatened to destroy the Hidden Leaf Village.

With Ame-no-Uzume's power, Sakura had entranced Shinnō, compelling him to focus his attention on her by eliminating his perception of everything else, but since she wasn't actually aware that she was using this ability, she was unable to trigger its second and third parts: Yata no Kagami and Yasaka no Magatama!

That is, Itachi's special Susano'o abilities (minus the Sword of Totsuka)!

"Stop," croaked Sakura. "You don't want to do this…"

Shinnō's form was rapidly shrinking back to normal, but he remained a threat, for Sakura was still unable to move. Her regeneration was agonisingly slow, as she had to painstakingly draw physical energy from her broken body and mould chakra bit by bit, having yet to replenish her Yin Seal's reserves.

"I have been waiting more than thirty years to have my revenge against the Hidden Leaf Village and the Land of Fire," hissed Shinnō as he stalked towards her. "I will not be denied."

Blood began flowing freely from Sakura's right eye, joining the stream from her left pooling in her cleavage. To think she had no choice but to resort to Talk-no-Jutsu, Naruto's speciality…

"You didn't kill the villagers," Sakura said weakly.

"I reserved a fate worse than death for them," Shinnō proclaimed. "To serve as Ancor Vantian's power source as I lay waste to their homes!"

Yep, this bloke was irredeemably twisted. But still, Sakura had to try.

"What about Amaru?" Sakura groaned. "You said you spent fourteen years with her, teaching her medicine, healing the downtrodden."

Sakura refused to believe that not an ounce of sympathy could exist in Shinnō's heart for his disciple. Even if he had begun with vengeance in his heart, intending to betray her from the very start, she could not accept that some measure of love or pride had failed to take root in him over those long years.

In truth, not a single shred of such emotions lingered in Shinnō's darkened heart. They had died long ago, when Ancor Vantian had fallen for the first time. Ever since the fall of his country, a consuming lust for revenge had possessed him.

However, the avenger's vow meant nothing in the face of Sakura's powers, for in her right eye dwelled…

"Kotoamatsukami!"

And what happened, then? Well, in the Land of the Sky they say… that the Sky Emperor's small heart grew three sizes that day.
