After all, the appearance of such a hidden danger indicates that Demogorgon has left so many contingencies intact despite centuries of opposition from the Church of the Gods; it's indeed difficult to believe all at once.
If Lis were not a World Tree Favored, Morris would not believe what Lis had to say at all.
But now, Morris must trust Lis. As long as there is the slightest possibility, the Church of the Gods must seize this opportunity to mend the fence after losing the sheep.
