"What's this for?"
Pei Yicheng looked at the money Xu Nian'an handed him, unable to help but frown.
"It's for Nianhua's medical expenses," Xu Nian'an said, "I know the money should come from the person who hit Nianhua, but since they haven't decided yet how much they'll pay, I can't just let you cover the costs upfront."
"Did you… tell your family?" Pei Yicheng looked at the envelope. There was at least nine hundred inside.
"No." Xu Nian'an quickly shook his head, feeling a bit embarrassed, because he'd lied to his family to get this thousand yuan. He said, "Yicheng, you helped us and we're really grateful, but fair is fair."
"Nian'an, why do you have to keep your distance? It's just advancing the money." Pei Yicheng handed the envelope back.
"Yicheng, Nianhua is my sister. I know you two are close, but this should be my responsibility first," Xu Nian'an lowered his eyes, not daring to look at Pei Yicheng.
