Not far from the residential area where Xia Lu and her daughter now live, Zhou Mingchen and Ye Shaotang sat face-to-face in a coffee shop.
"Say what you want to say already, you're not thinking of drinking coffee here with me all night, are you?"
More than an hour ago, just after Zhou Mingchen got out of the taxi and before he even stepped into the community, Ye Shaotang grabbed his arm.
"You?" He hadn't had the chance to be surprised when Ye Shaotang explained himself, "I've been waiting for you for a long time."
Zhou Mingchen shook off his arm and walked toward the community.
"What's the point of doing this?" Ye Shaotang shouted from behind him, "Xia Lu hasn't come back yet."
Taking the bus obviously wasn't as quick as a taxi, and Zhou Mingchen wasn't foolish; of course, he knew. He continued to walk forward without looking back.
"Why are you following me?" After walking a bit, he turned his head and found Ye Shaotang doggedly trailing right behind him, like a shadow.
