The flight on the ship didn't take much time and before long they had reached the temple where the said ability awakening would take place.
'System, is this the system trial that you said earlier'

'What is the trial about?' Michael asked in a bid to get the system to spill some knowledge about it but the system didn't answer him.
'What kind of system did I get?' He kept on asking himself as he came down from the airship and saw the magnificent temple they landed on. It had tall Pilar's which supported the construction and many ancient carvings and tapestries that depicted the ancient beings but Michael was not interested in any of that.
He looked at an altar in the highest place in the temple and the thousands of people waiting with their head down in prayer below.
'That must be the altar where you awaken your system'. Michael guessed and he was right. He saw a priest guiding a youth like Michael on how to awaken your abilities and after watching, he got the general scope.
So to awaken your ability, you just have to stimulate the energy lying dormant in your body and the altar will identity the powers you have and it will be shown.
The youth removed his hand from the altar and everyone could see light shone forth from the altar which led to plenty gasps and moans of surprise. Michael did not know what was so special about it but when the youth began to manifest pure light in his hands did he get the surprise.
Even in the normal world, finding those who were blessed by the light was rare. Very rare. Their powers were always over powered and few could compete. Their skills and techniques were also off the charts.
While everyone was shouting with joy and surprise, the preist had a frown on his face. He didn't even seem surprised and only alarmed.
"Stop talking all of you. Yes, the light is good but only comes when there will be great darkness and this is proof that it is coming soon." The priest shouted for all to hear and slowly, the commotion subsided and everyone grew calm.
The priest gave a few instructions to the temple slaves and the youth blessed by the light was taken away but everyone was still excited.
Next it was Michael's turn and he went with confidence, ready to see which powers he gets. 'Please let it be good, please let it be good.' He prayed to every god, celestial being and Buddha that was still alive and prayed to the god of the temple to get a really great power.
He put his hand on the cold surface of the stone altar and waited patiently for the results. When he removed his hand and saw the darkness that came out from the altar, he was disappointed.
'Still those boring shadows I got'. But everyone else was shocked. Fear was on their faces and they hurried to get out of the temple, scampering like they had witnessed a huge calamity.
The darkness went to the sky and made the sky darkened and gloomy. 'That has never happened before'. Michael said when he saw the darkness cover the sky.
When he turned around, he saw the shocked looked on the people he came with faces and couldn't help but frown.
"The darkness ability...he has the darkness ability". Michael could hear the shouts of the people from below and his frown deepened even further.
The priest held a green crystal and pointed it at him. "I cast you into the abyss you abomination". He said cruelly. Green flames burst out and tried to engulf him but he dodged.
He turned back and saw carvin's friends looking at him with shock, anger and hatred while the girl looked at him with helplessness. 'Ahh damn. I guess they take the shadow ability here as a disaster not knowing it is also an ability'. He shook his head as he dodged another flare of green flames that the priest continued to shoot at him with fervor.

This time he checked it well and saw that his ability was actually darkness but the skills made him raise his eyebrow.
'Shadow control and shadow movement'

The description was short and simple. He already knew that one and had tested it when he was still in the jungle. Then he turned his eyes to shadow movement.

'Huh. Are you serious.' Michael was very surprised at this skill. It enabled him to move through the shadows. Bit he didn't know if he could move through the shadow of a living being.
"Why won't you die you abomination". The priest shouted and kept shooting out green fireballs at him but he still dodged them.
"Alright baldy, I think I'll kill you first". Michael smiled evilly and rushed towards the priest like a demon.
The priest was still in shock so when his hand was in his chest, he still didn't know. The priest looked down at the hand that was in his chest and then at Michael's cold face that reflected a freezing light. The priest fell down on the floor.
Not too far from deaths door. Michael shook his hand and blood drops fell to the ground and he turned to look at the group that came with him. His face was still cold and with the blood on his hand made a scary sight.
"If you want to you can come after me". Michael said and disappeared into the nearby shadow and appearing several hundred metres away.
