Chapter 117 - Prelude To Disaster

Once the word about how someone had managed to do something worthy of receiving one of the greatest rewards from Night Silver, the people proved her right. First there was a lot of gossip, and even expectations for what the child might be able to do, and there were some who thought about who would be raising the child. Though, after that phase ended, it became clear that most had a whole new level of drive to perform some sort of grand feat with the skills they had been given.

This time, not everyone strived for such greatness. Instead these people opted to live calm and relaxing lives, just going about their business. This was a kind of peace that few had ever experienced, and they were going to enjoy it. It was a respectable decision, and one that Night Silver was more than satisfied with. It was her dream to rid the world of the same level of suffering she witnessed in her previous world.

Time continued, and eventually a researchers guild was created, where professionals of their various fields would converse, sharing their insights on a wide range of subjects. In some respects, it was similar to one of those old age colleges. This was where many new technologies were developed, and/or improved upon. They used insights achieved from having the fresh perspective of a trained professional.

However, while there was no shortage of improvements, none of them rose to the level of the most grandiose reward. That said, considering it had only been a year since the day that one young man had created the magic item, it was rather impressive. And there… Was something else.

"My beloved people. I have given birth to a beautiful baby girl. I know there were some questions about this arrangement before, but I assure you of this, I'll never look down on her. She's my baby after all." She said with a smile, as her newborn drank from her bosom. "Now, I know you've all been working hard to receive a similar reward. And while I am absolutely thrilled by the idea. I must warn you now, that even if you managed to earn this reward, I'll need to request that you wait on redeeming it. I've been getting funny feelings as of late. I feel as though it's about time for that stupid mother-in-law of mine to summon more of those from my old homeland. I'd rather be in a position to defend all of my beloved people, without risking the innocent life of a child."

That was the final warning the Nadarians needed. The order to begin preparations was all but given. The order was one that need not be stated. As the information given was more than enough to give the people the sense of urgency they'd need.

Farmers began inspecting the underground fields, ensuring they'll be able to continue working their regular job there if the need ever arose.

Food distributors, inspectors, and nutrition specialists had it the roughest. These were the most respected professions next to that of the warriors, sitting just under the goddess herself. They were responsible for all the food needs of Tus Nadair. And they had been given special orders long in advance of a potential catastrophe. They were to store food in a way that it wouldn't spoil, and could be used in the event there was suddenly no way to grow food on their own. As such, these people had been extremely busy for the better part of the last decade, constantly managing every single one of the meals for every single person in the nation.

Warriors continued their training with gusto, each attempting to go beyond their limits. They had also employed the use of healers to make the training even more intense. This allowed the warriors to train real combat, and healers to train their skills to the fullest. Some of the warriors, and by some, it was really most of them… They would train completely nude, their idea behind it being they should hone their skills to the maximum as much as possible. An experience and skill, over power approach. It was a rather odd approach, but the difference in ability was enough to make it worthwhile in both the warriors, and Night Silver's eyes.

Everyone else had started their own preparations. And evacuation drills began taking place on the regular. There were at least 2 every single day, occasionally having one of them while everyone was asleep. It was a brutal time for everyone in Tus Nadair. However, no one complained, because they knew it was for their own safety. That, and complaining would only hurt their goddess's heart with a wave of worry.

Eventually, the evacuation drills were slowed down, allowing everyone a bit of a break. However, they weren't over yet, as they had to practice with random times throughout the day and week. Before it was to get everyone to understand what had to be done. And now it was time to practice putting the knowledge into, well, practice. Soon, the drills had finished, and would now be tested once every year, with another stipulation that everyone would relearn the process every 10 years.

Considering how annoying it was to manage the process, Night Silver wanted to wait longer, but knowing how quickly everything can change, opted to make sure each generation would get the experience right when they would need it the most. It was a good thing too… Because, time passed by once more, and on the day, marking 100 years after her arrival, she felt it, the rumble of the world, where a mighty powerful summoning spell had been used.

"They really decided to go through with using that dumb spell, huh?"

A half-elf gently tugged on Night Silver's dress. "Mommy? Does that mean the bad guys are coming?"

Picking the child up and hugging her, Night Silver smiled. "Not yet, there doesn't seem to be any notion that they've been summoned nearby. And don't you worry, mommy will make the bad guys go away."

"That's right, little sis! Mommy is the strongest ever! She'll send the bad guys packing."

"Really! Mommy is so cool!"

"Pfft, you're all adorable. I love you."

And so, the peaceful days continued for a while. Until…
