Chapter 17 - One step at a time

I take a deep breath and force my feet to take a step forward even though it feels as if weights are crushing my lungs. Everything inside of me is protesting against it, I just want to curl up into a ball on the ground and cry, but I know that now is not the time for it. If I give up now Dion and me are dead for sure and even if I may not care much about my life, I can't let another person die when I have the power to do something against it. We may not like eachother very much, but he's been helpful. And....I'm glad he's here with me, I don't think I could handle being completely alone right now.... I'm scared... terrified, actually. Everything is happening so fast, I'm not sure my mind can even follow along with everything that is happening. But it doesn't matter, not as long as my body keeps pushing forward.

Somehow I manage to take one step after another until I'm out of Eloria's house. "Let's get you home." Without looking back or checking whether or not Dion is actually following me I start walking towards the general direction I remember his house being at. He's a descendant of one the 3 founding families of this city so he of course he lives in the rich people district. They get basically treated like royalty, living in flourish while so many other families are struggling to bring food to the table. Still, this must be hard for him too, he has had such a privileged life so I'm sure this is the first crisis he's ever faced and still, he's the one who's been calming me down....I hope his family is okay, I still hate the rest of them, but I probably wouldn't have survived this long without Dion. He doesn't deserve to loose everything like I did today. I still don't like him because I hate the way he treated everyone in the academy as if they were beneath him but I can respect him for what he's done for me all day.

Once we arrive at the gate separating the rich district from the rest of the city I turn to look at Dion. "So, how do we get in? Do you know how this thing opens?" Dion nods. "Yeah, normally the guards open it, but I don't think they're still in there now, they probably ran away so we have a problem. The gate can only be opened from the inside so without someone opening it for us from the other side we won't get in this way..." "Well, fuck, what do we do then? Do you have any other ideas?" Dion looks unsure for a moment, it's obvious from his face that he knows something but isn't sure about telling me. "...There's a secret passage I use sometimes when I feel the need to get out of there..... I'm not sure if it's accessible anymore because of all the destruction in the city, but we could try."
