The street where Christian's house stood was unusually quiet. In fact, it was too quiet. The only sounds were the footsteps of the man and woman walking side by side.
Christian noticed that, and spread his senses, understanding the reason immediately.
There wasn't a single living person nearby. The surrounding buildings, however, were far from empty. They were occupied by mechanical beings… by his androids.
"Was this Annabelle's doing? Or Eva's?" he muttered, having never been informed about it.
"It's better this way," Anastasia said from beside him. She had naturally sensed the same thing. "If you want to keep the place out of other people's hands."
Christian didn't have any objections to her words.
Anastasia was right. With the state of the world, an empty house was practically an invitation to those who no longer cared about laws. Having the surrounding buildings occupied by androids and guarding it, was the best approach.
