Sure enough, in the evening, Rumus received a call from the Commander-in-Chief.
"Rumus, I heard you're planning to act against the Menghu Mercenary Corps. What's going on?" the Commander-in-Chief questioned.
In the eyes of the Commander-in-Chief, Rumus was still the commander of the small base, his direct subordinate.
"That's correct, I've investigated the Menghu Mercenary Corps and found links to the rebels." Rumus responded bluntly.
"No, call a command meeting immediately and remove that from the agenda," the Commander-in-Chief ordered.
Rumus felt disgruntled; he was now the Deputy Commander of the Northern Region, ranked just below the Commander-in-Chief.
Higher rank suppresses lower rank; Rumus was expected to adhere to the Commander-in-Chief's orders.
But since the Commander-in-Chief was currently attending training, the work here was entirely Rumus's responsibility.
"Why are you stopping me from taking action against them?" Rumus asked, puzzled.
