Chapter 517: Crisis for the Demon Race
Ye Tian didn't care how furious Taibai Jinxing was—after all, it was that old man who provoked him first. So the angrier he got, the happier Ye Tian felt.
Although Ye Tian wasn't exactly skilled at capturing demons, that didn't mean he couldn't find some amusement in this Monster-Catching segment of the Golden List Livestream.
He glanced once more at Taibai Jinxing and the Jade Emperor, then turned and walked away. The Jade Emperor muttered, "That Ye Tian… Sooner or later, I'll make him pay for looking down on me."
Taibai Jinxing chimed in, "That's right, Jade Emperor. He's far too arrogant. Someone that insolent doesn't deserve to keep living. If I had the power, I'd make sure he vanished from this world."
His meaning was clear—he was resentful. The Jade Emperor clearly had the strength to deal with Ye Tian, so why was he still allowing him to be so brazen?
In truth, the Jade Emperor didn't have the power to deal with Ye Tian. If he did, he would've acted long ago instead of waiting until now.
People only knew the Jade Emperor as the mighty ruler of the Heavenly Court, but they were mostly unaware of Ye Tian's true strength.
Yet the Jade Emperor knew perfectly well—Ye Tian's power was terrifying. Opposing him would only end in disaster.
"Monster-Catching List, demon capture…"
Even after leaving the Golden List Livestream, Ye Tian kept mulling it over. This time, the featured list was the Monster-Catching List, which meant it wouldn't be easy for him to rank. After all, not every demon was worth capturing in his eyes.
He understood there were both good and bad people in the world—just as there were good and bad demons. Unlike the gods in the Heavenly Court, who labeled all demons as evil and indiscriminately captured them, Ye Tian didn't share that view.
Because of this mindset, he naturally wasn't as aggressive in capturing demons as those gods.
Did this mean he really had no chance to make it onto the Monster-Catching List?
Ye Tian wasn't someone who gave up easily. Even though ranking on the list would be difficult this time, he still hadn't thrown in the towel.
Back at his abode, he thought deeply for a while. Suddenly, an idea struck him: it was true that he wasn't good at catching demons, but the Heavenly Court had plenty of gods who specialized in it. What if they unknowingly helped him get ranked?
Ye Tian figured it would be a waste not to make use of those Heavenly Court immortals. Take Taibai Jinxing, for example—his conduct was utterly disgraceful. He'd tried to humiliate Ye Tian in front of everyone, but thankfully Ye Tian had thick skin and managed to put him in his place.
When Ye Tian returned to his cave residence, Di Jun saw him and asked, "You've been busy cultivating—did something happen?"
"Of course something happened. And it's a major issue for your demon race."
"What? A major issue for the demon race?"
"Yeah. The Golden List Livestream this time is focused on the Monster-Catching List. Your demon race is about to face serious trouble."
"How could this happen?"
Di Jun was stunned. As the leader of the demon race, his responsibility was to protect his people. But now the list was targeting demon capture—this would only put his race in a dangerous and unfavorable position.
"Monster-Catching List? What even is this Golden List Livestream? It's completely unfair to us! Are they trying to wipe out the entire demon race?"
He was visibly anxious. If anything were to happen to the demon race, what kind of leader would he be?
"Don't worry. This demon-hunting operation isn't something you can just stop. Most of the participants in the livestream are from the Heavenly Court. That's why I believe we must work together if we want to protect some of the innocent demons."
"What should we do?"
"The Heavenly Court will indiscriminately capture any demon—good or bad. What we need to do now is counter that. When they capture demons, we help them escape. What do you think?"
Ye Tian's proposal was music to Di Jun's ears. He replied, "You're willing to help me?"
"Of course I am. I'll stand with you this time. If something happens to the demon race, then it concerns me too. So yes, I'll step in."
"Good brother! When does the Monster-Catching Livestream begin?"
"In three days!"
"Alright. I need to return to the demon territory and give out orders. I'll tell everyone to lay low and avoid running into any of those Heavenly immortals—minimizing their chances of being caught."
"Go ahead. Just come back soon."
"I will."
Di Jun swiftly returned to the demon territory. As soon as he arrived, the Black Bear Spirit came to greet him. "Chief, you're back!"
"Yes, I'm back. This time I came back because there's something important I need to tell everyone."
A nearby Leopard Spirit also came over. "Boss, what is it?"
"The Golden List Livestream has started, and it's featuring the Monster-Catching List. In other words, our demon race is about to face calamity."
"What? How could the livestream do this? This so-called Golden List might very well become our doom!"
Those nearby began to murmur and grumble in agitation. Fear and anger filled their hearts—they didn't know what to do.
At that moment, a Tiger Spirit growled, "If anyone dares come here to catch us, we'll fight them! We're not so easy to bully!"
"Exactly! We won't be pushed around. Boss, just tell us what to do!"
"We have to recognize that the demon race is weak right now. We can't afford to act recklessly. As the saying goes, impulsiveness is the devil. If we confront them head-on, we'll only be defeated."
"Then what should we do?"
"Our top priority now is defense. Everyone must stay within the demon mountain range. No one goes out. Unity is strength. If we remain here, the only ones at risk are the few stragglers outside. The damage will be limited. So don't panic—while I'm here, I'll do my best to keep you safe."
"Boss, you're being too soft-hearted. If they're coming at us with deadly intent, we should treat them as enemies! Are we supposed to just keep our heads down while they step all over us?"
Seeing the Leopard Spirit's rage, Di Jun replied, "That's not what I meant. I mean we need to bide our time. We simply don't have the strength to fight them yet."
