"So," Leo said slowly, voice low and smooth, "you're that hacker from Hackerverse who stole my money?"
Dom swallowed, the sound audible in the stillness.
Hard.
Finally, with the air of a man walking his own plank, he forced himself to lift his head.
Big mistake.
Leo's gray eyes locked onto him immediately. They were sharp, clear, and held a depth of cold, patient danger that made Dom's breath hitch. All the color drained from Dom's face, leaving him pale and visibly wilted.
He cleared his throat, a dry, scraping sound. "Well," he started, his voice unnaturally high and careful. "When you say stole, it sounds so… aggressive. I prefer the term… temporarily relocated."
Leo's brow lifted a fraction, a silent, devastating commentary.
Dom rushed on, the words tumbling out in a panicked stream. "For educational purposes! Security testing! You know… ethical. Very, very ethical."
