By the time they finally reached the city, the sky had already drowned itself in deep blue, and the streets outside the car glowed softly under the streetlamps. Leo stepped out first, stretching his sore shoulders, then opened the door for Bella. She didn't move. She was curled up in her seat like a tiny sleeping kitten, her cheek pressed to the seat, her hair falling over her eyes.

He leaned in, sliding one arm under her knees and the other around her back, lifting her gently. Bella barely stirred; her fingers curled lightly against his shirt as if seeking warmth even in her dreams.
