Chapter 1 - Birth of a Hero

Are quirks natural or supernatural?

Since the advent of the glowing baby, this question has flowed through every society, culture, and mind.

Is it god-given? Early Enlightenment? A Virus?

Have humans finally evolved?

Well, after constant experimentation on early quirk users, along with the works of the mother of quirks, governments around the world, and the mass media, Quirks were indeed recognized as a sudden evolution of humans and were classified into three categories.

These three main categories comprise Emitters, which are the most flashy and powerful quirks that allow the user to manipulate the world around them and sometimes generate powers within themselves like All Might or Endeavor. Second are transformation quirks that, for a time, allow the user to transform magical girl-type transformations. Finally, there are mutant quirks that cause permanent bodily changes, whether that be an extra arm, reptile skin, or any other irregularity with the body.

But this idea of only 3 categories was disingenuously presented by those at the top of the world.

Sure, people's quirks were determined by their parents' genes, just like hair or eye color, and the categories were correct. However, quirks weren't simply human evolution. If that were the case, how would a mouse ever get a quirk?

Currently, at an old shrine, the number 2 hero, Endeavor, grew desperate in his pursuits. Bringing about untold destruction, but also the truth of quirks. Of demons, fairy tales, and unlimited power.

Ise Grand Shrine

Enji stealthily made his way through the ethereal grand shrine at night, ensuring he didn't attract the attention of the workers or any of the few night-time visitors. This was one of the few places in Japan he couldn't rent, and with his hero work consuming most of his time, it was a miracle he had managed to maintain his prayers for a son for over a year now. The last thing he wanted was to be caught by the paparazzi.

Despite the lack of results, Enji's resolve remained. He believed that if he could breach the sacred inner shrine, where the emperor usually resides, his prayers would be answered. 'Why else the separation?' Plus, the main shrine, with its intricate design and divine atmosphere, was like a painting, mysterious and absorbing.

"It doesn't feel that different. Why doesn't it feel different? "Enji whispered yelled as his blood began to boil in frustration.

It was common for his flames to increase to the point of changing color when close to the temple, as though he were being blessed by Amaterasu herself. Yet he had been at the main shrine for over two hours now, and nothing had changed; his fire still ran blue, just like with Touya.

"Am I to always be number 2 ?" He wondered, looking into the Yata no Kagami (Yata Mirror), his reflection looking back at him in the restored mirror's bronze frame.

"When did they restore that? Shouldn't they have told everyone?"

As he contemplated the many uses of such a quirk, he spotted someone behind him in the mirror's reflection.

Hiding behind one of the shrine's pillars. A boy stood, his hair a glowing purple while his deep scarlet clothing seemed to be of royal quality. His eyes showed immense relief.

"Endeavor! Why are you here? Not that it's not wanted, but you could have called. The imperial family would have been happy to show you around. Last year, Uncle All Might came to visit, and it was tons of fun." The boy beamed with fandom.

"Come let me introduce you to Father and the others; they might be a little mad you showed up here, but we can make an exception for such a great..."

"Quiet boy, your father already knows I'm here. I'm on what's called a secret mission." Chills rose up Endeavor's back as he bluffed. His flames rose to extreme levels, buffed by the shrine, while sweat began to evaporate off his skin. If it got out that he broke imperial law so blatantly, he wouldn't even be able to dream of being number one, let alone a life out of Tartarus.

"What kind of secret mission? Is a villain going to show up?" The 5-year-old Prince flexed his muscles, mimicking the pose of the number 1 hero. "I'll help defeat him! My dad says my quirk is the best out there."

"Oh, really, well, unfortunately, I can't be sure a villain is going to appear. I was only tasked with protecting this mirror here." Endeavor pointed to the relic, flames now appearing on his arms in stress. Perhaps you should head back and not mention anything. I know the emperor would be peeved if he found you here in a place only some adults should be."

"Actually, Uncle Endeavor, I might be your mission as the one who repaired the mirror. I come every day to make sure it stays in pristine shape. Maybe Father called you to tell some of your hero stories. It always gets lonely here, and I always feel like I'm being watched. Perhaps Father knew..."

"Just leave!!!" Endeavor snapped at the young Prince, who was now frozen in place, his eyes wide and his mouth shivering in fear.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean anything by it, I was just...

"It's back!" the boy cried, pointing behind Endeavor

*POP* *Hiss*

A pop followed by a hissing sound echoed through the now-silent shrine. In his rage, Enji had accidentally set the cypress of the shrine on fire. However, that was not all that happened.

Quirks have always been categorized into three forms: emitters, transformers, and mutants. They are mostly based on genetics, whether bad or good, which is why Enji put quite a bit of effort into finding the best genetics when creating his "perfect family."

But there is a fourth form of quirk, the most powerful kind, that for now will be called simply imaginary Quirks.

Named after their reality-warping powers that can only be imagined by those who have no sense of the Laws of nature.

In dreams and belief, these quirks or entities are created.

In the case of the mouse Nezu, the scientist's imagination and belief in his work led to the creation of the high-spec quirk.

However, there is no imagination more powerful than that of a child who has not yet learned the ways of the world, and to the imperial Prince, the fire of the number 2 hero could simply only be.

"The demon is back."

"SSKKKKIIIIIII!

As the piercing shriek roared out from behind Endeavor, he lunged toward the Prince, dodging a sudden swing from the monster, which left a gigantic crater in the ground and set the rest of the main shrine on fire.

Cradling the Prince in his arms, Endeavor zoomed through the temple doors as far away as he could get away from the demon. He didn't know where he was going, but he wouldn't allow even a spec of ash to touch the child's skin.

Unfortunately, he couldn't just run out into the city, where civilians roamed, either, so he let the Prince down at the shrine's entrance and turned to face the demon, which had already spread its fire throughout the whole monument.

"Kid, get to safety and call the fire department while I beat this monster! "Enji believed the fight to be more than simple coincidence. "I'll face this trial head-on on Kami and win my right to be Number 1."

Feeling the demon's intense heat getting closer, he launched at it with flame-boosted speeds.

"Come demon, let us see whose flames burn the hottest. FLASHFIRE FIST! He would end this from the start.

The demon cried in pain and anger at the fists' impact, countering with a swift swing of its own fists that sent the number 2 flying through the few trees remaining at the location.

"It burned." He dodged the demon's next attack with a weave and swung back with a street fight-like overhead, luckily connecting with the demon's stomach, sending it to the ground in pain.

Catching his breath, Endeavor contemplated how he would end the monster. Looking at it, he noticed it truly looked demonic and was growing in size at the touch of flames. Its own flames were so hot that it seared his stomach where its fist connected. He hadn't felt that feeling of stinging flesh since he was much younger.

" HERO, " It screeched as it got up from its downed position, standing at what looked to be four meters from its original two. The screech, however, didn't seem that malicious to Endeavor but something more primal, like an extreme desire.

"You want to be a hero, huh? Unfortunately for you, the only case in which you become a hero is if you die right now to my flames!"

Creating blades of flame with his hand, Endeavor yet again shot out like a bullet at the demon, which seemed to get slower as it grew, instantly slicing its right leg. The monster screamed in protest and kicked at the flying man of flame.

But the man on fire met the kick head-on with his blade of flame, bisecting the leg in half and sending the demon to the floor yet again. Stopping in the air, Endeavor looked down on the demon from above and pressed his two hands together, creating a ball of flames. "Goddess Amaterasu, I am now to complete your trial and hope to be rewarded accordingly with a powerful son, Prominence Burn!

A beam of pure fire hit the demon's head, somehow evaporating the being made of pure fire. Leaving a lone hero to watch the aftermath. As the dust cleared, all that remained of the demon was the ash of the surrounding area and a black-haired child wrapped in black cloth, smiling a demonic smile.

"Well, that was interesting "
