It's the stillness that scares me, more than the explosions going off.

I don't even ask how she knows. Daji is a goddess. As proof, beside us, Athena mumbles agreement. Wukong makes monkey noises, which trigger dragon roars from Fuxi and Rokaci, and pig noises from our porcine friend Pigsy.
In the stillness, I finally get up and survey the damage.
The demon half of the Wendigo is gone. It's my worst nightmare, halved. In its place is a smoking ruin. Wood and brick and stone, green, black, and white all fused together. Obliterated. The grounds beyond have burned beyond repair. The pool water has doused some of the burned-out wreckage.
