Chapter 338 - 338 - Nobility

*

Her great sword appeared out of nowhere, thinking about it now the lady's shocked reaction was reasonable. When it made its imposing entrance, her torso shook a little at how sudden it was, and the pressure its pitch black sheen emanated was unmatched. Even the king's royal guard might cower before it now if they weren't moving as an organised group. The individual is now easy to defeat. At level 42, her stats have eclipsed theirs in every metric, and it was only the night of her 4th day in this world.

The battles she fought were completely unreasonable by most standards, but she survived and she had the strength to show for it. For the runaway lady, an impossible being to fight had shown up! Her black bangs shivered, her long glossy hair felt heavy upon her back... No, that was actually the weight of her house's fate, the deep significance of it had persistently worried her, so it was just construed with her physical fatigue.

Her back was drenched in sweat, nowhere was her dress found. She wore the garb of the common people to blend in with the crowd, a tunic similar to Lastia's and long brown trousers. Even then, her face looked much cleaner than the others unmarred by sweat, it was the mark of nobility. The great sword was frankly terrifying, it looked heavy at a glance as if it would bisect her like butter. The closest reference she had was a lumberer's axe, a single swing into her side and she would be incapacitated, doomed for a slow demise as she bled out.

For some reason, her opponent stood still and watched her as she caught her breath. The cold air rushing from the corridor tickles her cheek and caresses her neck, life breathes into her and carries hope. She holds the dagger by the pomel, it sat upon her palm unnaturally like a wine glass, as if defying gravity. The gem starts to glow, Lastia moves immediately with a single lunge. Turns out, their classes were diametrically opposed. Lastia was used to closing the distance, and she was used to the opposite.

Bright light swallows the dagger and when it faded, in its place was a small thin book. She was a wizard! Her first cast was wind magic that blew her back into the corridor, then black walls surrounded her on all sides. The exact same black as the great sword, there was no way it wasn't magic. At this point, she realised Lastia was also a high level mage. Such strong phenomena forced into reality had to consume large amounts of magic, all without a catalyst too unlike her dagger mage staff.

With this, she had nowhere to run. Fight to the death, those resolute eyes of her opponent calmly told her. She took a single swing, and the lady dodged it by propelling herself back with wind magic, looking at it this way Lastia hasn't done much.

"Use your dagger. Copy the shape of this sword." (Lastia)

acquired.

The voice of heaven speaks to her, as if tacitly asking her to use it. Wind magic envelops the blade of her dagger, extending it to the length of a sword with a translucent green glow. Despite imitating the shape of the great sword, it turned out like her normal blade sheathed by her side, the opponent even knew that her magic couldn't match up. She had to burn large amounts of magic to maintain this.

"A life lived will be a life worth striving for." (?)

She burns the last of her magic, her sword changeds from translucent green to transparent colourless. If she were to use this in the future, the most important part about wind magic should be how others can't see it coming. She takes a step, then two. From seeing a single swing of Lastia's, she emulates it. The last of her magic goes into her blade and its length extends to the same degree as the great sword, all while the changes couldn't be observed. Their weapons clash and the pressure sends everything in the room flying towards the ceiling, like a storm.

She steps closer, pretends that the reach of her blade is still the same as before. The sword's magic is continuously being used up as it hardens itself against the great sword to avoid splitting apart. Locked in the heat of battle, her growing exhaustion felt like a leaf blown away by a great typhoon, all that was left in her mind was the path to victory. Her will ferocious trailblazes the way forward, the stakes of her family and the world hangs in the backdrop like forgotten stage actors.

For what it was worth, she had avoided all confrontation and she exhausted herself from the sheer escape of it all. They're making a lot of noise up here, on the second floor of this inn, so her pursuers will likely get alerted and cut off her escape. She swings her blade outwards, throwing the clash to the side with her strength. Without stepping forward, she takes another thrust of her sword directly at Lastia.

Lastia backsteps, but she was still within range of that wind blade perched upon the Lady's dagger. This was the fruit borne of her deceit, if she doesn't defeat this opponent here she'd never have freedom, worse her life might not be spared if she were brought down here. It was meant to capitalise on opponents who had experience and could deal with invisible blades, constantly predicting the location of her weapon, but never able to observe if it changed shape or length. Her arms and waist wound like a spring, executing an elegant textbook thrust, tearing the air apart faster than she ever had in her life.

*Clang!!*

A single black thread blocked its advance. laid down threads while she was too focused on the fight to pay attention to her surroundings. Not to mention...

"You've been looking at the space in front of your sword..." (Lastia)
