Chapter 32 - Counter-Fantasy

During the break, Zed thought about the different visions of his novel. He saw visions of cool spirits that were cool. He didn't look up to saviors. He looked up to Ancients. He saw the Ancient Called Devil who was cool compared to him. Although what he did left Zed with a haunting memory, it was a feeling that Zed was bound to have. Not being cool enough. Not having enough aura. He saw the mysterious guy that hooped that day being more athletic than normal people he knew. It reminded him of his brother Zetsu. I'm not sure what happened after the game that day, but I'm sure they both got became great friends. He saw Cyrus's leadership, and how he had motivated him all the way here. He knew that Cyrus would be able to call up a school for Zed after the vacay if he ever needed one. Then there was Ezio. Honestly Zed doesn't know what Ezio is up to right now. They haven't communicated since that gang attack.

Feeling tired, Zed decided to nap for a few minutes. That's when he had his first dream about his novel.

[When Zed looked around, he saw a village ahead. He looked back trying to understand where he was at. He tried to pinch himself, but it actually hurt, so it wasn't a dream. He looked back to the village, then ran over to it. As he ran, he started looking around for a sign that told him if he was going the right way, because everywhere he went, every sidewalk he looked past did not have people around. He suddenly paused at a place that he was not aware off. Is this place off limits to children? He saw beer bottles all over, assuming that was the case. Even from where he stood, he could hear people yelling, wrestling, possibly fighting. Zed decided to back away from whatever that place was for now. He turned ran eventually he got to the end of the village where there was a sign "Demon base this way!"

Zed didn't know better, so he ran past the sign heading to the base. From afar, all he saw was the road, and more grass. He thought that maybe the sign was a false statement to throw people off, since the village didn't seem as though it had popularity seeing how its business was. Soon, Zed stopped when he heard a sound behind him. When he turned his head, the figure was wearing a black hood clearly not showing his face to him. Zed asked him to show his face, but the black hooded figure charged at him with a sword. He tried to get out of the way but couldn't do so with bad reflexes. Zed got plunged by the sword, glowing blood pouring from him. He then absorbed the sword; the sword ate at his body then disappeared. The black hooded figure backed away leaving his weapon at Zed's digestion.

Zed didn't know what that was, but he was glad he wasn't hurt too badly. He then continued his way to the demon base. When he almost got there, his body started to hurt more. He started tumbling forward, not walking properly. When he got to the base, he noticed a group of demon soldiers, but what was different about each of them was their level. He saw some demons with level 1. Others had level 55, 75. When Zed got closer, his body started to give up, tumbling to the floor, startling the demons. They jump back with their weapons clearly not welcoming visitors. Zed tried to raise a hand to tell them that he was a demon too, but before he could say a word, the world becomes dark.

When Zed woke up, he was resting someplace he didn't recognize. It was a tent of some sort. He tried to get up, but couldn't his body ache much more than before. He looked to the table at the side seeing a bloodied sword. Guess that was the sword I absorbed entirely. How did it leave my body? He snuck a peek at the base; the base was a cool atmosphere. When a few demons got close to the tent, Zed hid, hearing their conversation. They were talking about the Ancient called Devil. Now that's someone he knew. From what Zed was able to hear, The Ancient called Devil commanded the ancient army to attack the village nearby. That was the village Zed came from. Should he go back to warn them? He thought about the places at the village. There were barely people there. Besides being this injured meant that Zed was not moving back there. Once Zed made his decision to stay here, he rested until he got his energy back. Zed woke up to the sound of screams. He looked around the base, then saw a large number of horses charging straight to the base.

Where was the Ancient called Devil? Wasn't he the one planning the attacks? It didn't take much time to truly understand that large number of horses belonged to the Ancients. Their black armor gave it away. Zed pushed back the demons, charging ahead. Wait what was he thinking? He was one ordinary boy at first. What made him think he could defeat a group of Ancient, let alone a group of Ancients with horses who were probably experienced at combat.

One of the Ancients raised their sword to strike at Zed, but Zed lifted the horses' feet, forcing the Ancient off its back. The Ancient tumbled to the floor while the horse ran away. The other Ancients surrounded Zed asking who he was. The Ancients didn't have a level, but it was clear that they were more than powerful. Zed said that he spawned near the village, then came here to understand what this place was. The Ancients then spoke a language that he didn't understand. Looking straight ahead, Zed could see a level 1 appear at his screen. The Ancients backed away, more threatened than ever by the max level stats he had.

He didn't understand it. He was not athletic so why was it saying that his stats were maxed. The Ancients charge at Zed with their most powerful attacks but looks towards the bloodied sword that he digested earlier. He created multiple illusions of that sword, each one floating above the Ancients. The Ancients looked at the swords for a few seconds thinking if they were a threat. Zed focused more of his energy to keep the illusions as realistic as possible. Eventually, the Ancients more terrified of the glowing blood eventually ride their horses away. Zed dropped to the floor completely, all his energy spent.

Soon after, a horse came to Zed. This horse was gliding with a blue aura around it. It wasn't some regular horse that's for sure. Zed then grabbed the horse by the feet, pulling himself up. He was honestly stunned that he had enough to get up. He tried to climb the horse but couldn't instead pushing against it. Suddenly from the sky, the sky reaver appears. It soared through the sky once before landing at the ground. It got back up, floated, its feet held downward as if asking for Zed to grab its feet, so it could fly him somewhere. Since Zed didn't have enough energy to get atop one of them, all he could do was grab the dragons' feet to have them take him to some different place.

Where he would take him, he wasn't sure. All he knew was that he couldn't fight for another day. The sky reaver soared through the sky, while down below, the stallion raced a dog. I didn't even see the other Ancients until now. How is a dog keeping up with a horse though? That's what I want to know. Up ahead, we see the ancient wyvern. It howls to the sky. This beast looked really powerful. Zed really doesn't want to have to fight it. Suddenly he falls down the sky tumbling a few feet down to the sand. Zed coughed as sand gets to his nostrils, then sneezes. The four Ancients appear right ahead of him waiting for his next order. This was a middle of a desert. There was no water to survive off of.

Zed knew that he also had to learn more about his abilities such as illusions. He channeled his most powerful attack, but nothing happens. It's almost as if all his abilities were based on surviving not fighting. With the sun beating down, he had to get to some shade, then he would have to find water. After tireless amounts of walking, he looked back at the Ancients who kept following him but not bothering to do more than that. I guess what I want them to do is take me back home, but that wasn't possible. Where was home? I'm lost here.

At last, Zed found water. He sat down to scoop water to his face. His face began to absorb the water. Is this always going to happen now. Suddenly out of nowhere, a mysterious guy with a show up. This one was different for his face was glitching. He walked to Zed asking if he knew some info about the artifacts. Zed replied that he didn't know what the artifacts were, that he only knows about the Ancients, the demons, also the cool spirits. The mysterious guy turned to the Ancients, who were clearly not happy to see him. The mysterious guy started to laugh. It was one of the evil laughs you would hear from the movies.

The mysterious guy told him that the artifacts were created by him, that one day they had gone lost. He was visiting different ancients to ask if they knew where they were, because he needed them with a really important reason that he could not share. Since this guy was here, Zed might as well ask him if he knew much about this world. The mysterious guy says that the Ancients are going to war with the Demons. Zed then mentions how he was attacked when he traveled to the demons' base, who could that have been? The mysterious guy said that was probably some thug or bandit. They were common around these places especially to rob you. However, he might also have some information about what the thugs or bandits were. Also, he knew who their leader might be.

The mysterious guy then talked about the world itself. This was a common world that was at the verge of a war. The only thing that is stopping them right now are the cool spirits. They are the most powerful beings of this world excluding me of course. Zed asked what made the mysterious guy so powerful. The mysterious guy laughs again, but this time it sounded less evil, more like he was being goofy. Was he really the most powerful being of this world? He stated that if he obtained all the artifacts, he would be. If. Zed started to laugh himself. If Zed could obtain all the artifacts, he would be the strongest of this world.

Zed only stops laughing when the mysterious guy had. He noticed his mood change. As first, he thought it was natural, but now it seemed as if there was no emotion to it at all. The mysterious guy then grabs Zed by the mouth, forcing the Ancients to get ready for a fight. As Zed had expected, this guy was not human, but nor was Zed right now. Zed's eyes started to glow while the mysterious guy started to glitch. The more it glitched; the more Zed's eyes started to burn. He told the Ancients to stay back, because this fight could get dangerous fast. Soon, Zed's aura went up, so did his level. He noticed that his level up could be identified by his glow up. This forced the mysterious guy to back up. Whatever he was up to now wasn't good. He threw his arms forward firing thunder strikes at Zed. Zed dodged some but most of them connected. What is worse is that he couldn't absorb thunder strike attacks. He tried to focus his illusion, but that was pointless. The ancients not wanting to stand back to only watch charge at the mysterious guy, who is now surrounded by thunder. If those thunder strikes are the reason that Zed can't fight, then he had to move fight someplace else. He closed his eyes, suddenly appearing at a dark room. The mysterious guy looked around the dark room with eyes that were glitching more, while Zed stood ready to fight.

Zed charged at the mysterious guy who tried to dodge but couldn't. Zed pushed him to the floor then tried to attack him while he was on the floor, but the mysterious guy kicked him at his side forcing a groan. Zed coughed, then threw the mysterious guy away. Zed wasn't sure how much time they spent fighting, but it started to get more brutal when Zed got his head slammed repeatedly. When you think the fight couldn't escalate, a powerful artifact appeared before them. The mysterious guy reached out to grab it. It was the death crown. Zed noticing that if the mysterious guy got his hands on it, he likely wouldn't have a fighting chance, so he went for it as well. The crown then disappeared from view. Zed almost collided with the mysterious guy's armored head. Then another artifact appeared. This time, it was the Ancient called Devils toy sword. Zed reached for it, but the second his hand made contact with the artifact, his body started to convulse. His agonized groans filled the room as the devil's toy sword made its way to his body.
