Chapter 46 - At The Helm

But he has not spoken to you since then. Her traitorous mind reminded. She blanched. Her days on The Rescuer had come to an end. She kept her eyes out the small window but the view of the waves did no justice nor did it calm her troubled thoughts. She wanted the sea, the entirety of it. It had always been her comfort. 

Quietly and against proper caution, she snuck out of her cabin and following the dimly lit path, climbed to the deck. Barefooted. 

The deck was nearly empty now. It had been lively hours before. They had sat under the open skies to converse loosely and laugh heartily, but now she sought solitude. She needed for her thoughts to bear witness to her troubles. She would peruse the upper deck and none would be the wiser of her presence. 

Except for the slapping waves by the side and the lamp from the starboard, the deck was as quiet as the last time she had walked on it alone, as quiet as she wished. The wood was cold to her feet and the easy breeze ruffled her hair.
