Vode's voice was laced with concern as he spoke to his mom on the phone. "Hello, Mum, please tell me you're ok?"
His mom's voice was shaky, and she was crying. "Yes, I am, but...your friend, he...was shot, and we're not sure he'll make it."
Vode's heart sank, and he felt a surge of fear. He appeared right inside the compound, his eyes scanning the area. The gate was burst open, and things were scattered all over the place. The Police were packing up the remaining bodies of bandits and his mom standing there, looking shocked and scared.
"Vode, how did you get here?" she asked, stunned.
"I knew something was wrong, and I rushed down," Vode replied, his eyes fixed on his friend's body on the ground. He burst out in tears, "I wish I was here earlier."
"I'm sorry" his mom said consoling him.
Four weeks later, and they were all done with their exams. Idara's friends, Ada and the rest, still couldn't believe she was alive and kept bugging her to spill everything, but all she could do was sigh and smile. Ola was surprised that Vode actually read really hard for the exams.
On the last exam day, Idara approached Vode, "Hey, boy."
"Hi, Nerd," he responded, "I have a banging headache."
Idara immediately checked his body temperature with her hand, "Are you sure you won't go to the school nurse?"
Vode joked, "Nah, cold water and a good nap are all I need."
"You're as stubborn as a donkey. Fine, suffer in silence then."
Idara pouted and walked away, but Vode couldn't control his laughter, "I love it when your face get all swollen."
They both laughed after re-creating a dramatic scene that had earlier happened in their lives.
Idara turned punching his shoulder, but immediately he let out a scream due to all the pain he had been through. Idara quickly held his arm, massaging it, "Sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry."
Later that evening their class had a party at Ola's house, which was big and beautiful. Everyone had fun playing games, laughing, and chatting. Ada, Ola, Idara, and Vode were all having a great time.
It was, around 7 pm, Vode was outside looking at the stars when Idara came to meet him. "It's a beautiful night, quite different from a few," she said, looking up at the sky.
Vode replied, "Yea, it is."
Idara smiled, "I'm glad it's all over now."
Vode looked at her, "Would you like to have a closer look at the sky?"
Idara turned to him, "crazy but yea I would."
Vode held her hand while she looked in his eyes, the dark fumes began to steam off him as he finally could control it willingly and they began levitating. Idara was shocked, "Are we...are we flying?"
Vode smiled then hushed her as he drew in for a kiss. It was their first, and it was magical. They kept ascending as they embraced each other.
As they floated there, Vode realized that love is strong in hardship, a friend can be better than a brother, and a feeling may fade in time, but a mother's love is forever.
