The Reconnaissance Corps had three key squads: the Scouts, who ventured deep into the unknown to map out terrain and track magical beasts; the Surveillance Squad, constantly watching over specific areas, always on alert; and now, the newly formed Extermination Squad, also known as the Culling Squad. Their mission? To hunt down and eliminate the magical beasts, or prevent beast tides by constantly reducing their numbers.
Today marked their first mission after the intense recruitment trials the day before.
"This is the farthest I've ever been from the academy," Minho whispered, unable to contain his awe.
"Shhh, keep it down," Ardiel cautioned, glancing around nervously. They were only a few hundred meters away from the fortress walls, but already, the air felt different—thicker and much more dangerous. The deeper they ventured into the forest, the sharper the senses of the beasts became. The academy, while close to the edge of the forest, was still in a perilous zone.
