Chapter 1 - chapter 1: Introduction to the protagonist

Dr. Michael Ogunlade stood among the throngs of newly graduated students, the sweltering heat of Lagos pressing down on the ceremony. He adjusted the collar of his gown, glancing around at the sea of proud faces. His mother beamed from the crowd, her expression filled with pride and hope for his future. His father's absence was a sharp reminder of his motivations; losing him at 18 had instilled a burning drive to make something of himself.

As the ceremony concluded, Michael made his way to the refreshment area, his mind already turning to what lay ahead. His academic achievements in pharmacy had been exceptional, but he yearned for something beyond the confines of a typical career.

"Michael Ogunlade ?" a voice called out, cutting through the noise. He turned to see a man in a crisp suit approaching him. The man exuded an air of authority and mystery.

"Yes, that's me," Michael replied, curiosity piqued.

"My name is Emeka Kalu," the man said, extending a hand. "I represent the Imperial Intelligence Service. We've been watching your progress and believe you have potential beyond the ordinary."

Michael shook his hand, a mix of intrigue and caution in his eyes. "The Imperial Intelligence Service?"

"Yes," Emeka said with a nod. "We deal with matters of national security, both within and beyond our borders. We believe you have the skills we need. If you're interested, I'd like to discuss an opportunity with you."

Michael's mind raced. This was the chance he had been waiting for, a path that promised excitement and significance. "I'm interested," he said, determination hardening his voice.

"Excellent," Emeka replied. "Meet me at this address later today. We have much to discuss."

As Michael pocketed the card with the address, he felt a surge of anticipation. His life was about to change in ways he could never have imagined, and he was ready to embrace the unknown.
