Brannoc stepped aside as a dwarf pushed a handcart past his boots.
"Mind your feet," the dwarf warned. He snorted and wheeled the cart toward the receiving square.
Brannoc elected to ignore the rude midget and joined Kaelira where she'd put down her case of unfamiliar metal.
Beyond the receiving square, the shore rang with hammers. A line of cranes followed the edge of an excavated basin, their arms turning above crews fitting the first quay walls. Farther inland, workshop roofs stood over freshly installed anvils, and the foundations of larger buildings extended toward the road.
This place was already devouring timber and stone by the cartload.
Human carpenters worked beneath the lamps along the assembly beds, fitting supports that dwarven smiths reinforced with iron. At the nearest crane, a bearkin foreman directed the team hauling on its ropes while an elven caster held a barrier between the swinging load and the men working below.
"Left! Your other fucking left!"
