Chapter 23 - Chapter 23: The Visitor

The person who entered my wards came up to the door and knocked I had already Apparated to my cabin living room to "hear" the urgent knocking.

I quickly shifted to my older form and walked over to where I heard the urgent knocking

I opened the door and standing outside my door with an Injured middle-aged man was Eragon and I couldn't see her, but I could sense Saphira's presence most likely due to my enhanced senses both magical and physical.

"Eragon? What are you doing here?" I asked genuinely confused as I had still expected Eragon to bring his uncle to someone he knew better than me but I suppose it was due to my cabin being closer than the village.

"It's my uncle, he was attacked! Can you help him?" Eragon asked urgently.

"Put him on the table." I said seriously as I cleared off my dining room table and walked off to "grab" items to treat him.

I had merely gone to another room to summon them from my spatial bag and I walked back out.

I saw that Garrow was on the floor and Eragon had passed out from his I Jared body from the flight with Saphira.

I levitate Garrow's body onto the table and Eragon's onto the couch while simultaneously magically cleaning and wrapping both their wounds with bandages.

I could see that even though Garrow's superficial injuries were healed, the fatal wound caused by the Ra'Zaac wasn't healing. When I tried to use healing magic on the wound it got worse so I immediately stopped.

I believed the wound could've been healed with the magic of this world but I didn't know it yet.

(2 days later)

(Eragon POV)

*Gasp*

I awoke with a start and noticed I was shirtless and bandaged and I saw an unfamiliar ceiling.

As I got up whilst wincing from the lingering pain of my injured legs, I saw my uncle on the table bandaged as I was and he was breathing in shallow gasps and he was covered in cold sweat.

Everything clicked into place, and I remembered what had happened and where I was.

"Good morning." I heard a voice from another room.

I looked over and saw the man who had helped me two months ago and seemingly bandaged myself and my uncle.

"Good morning, thank you for your help. How is he?" I asked as I looked at my uncle.

(Normal POV)

"Good morning, thank you for your help. How is he?" I heard Eragon ask.

"I have done what I can but his wounds aren't healing and his fever won't break. I am sorry to say that I don't feel he will be much longer for this world." I said somberly.

(Quick Eragon 3rd Person POV)

Eragon's face deflated, but he knew it was a long shot in trying to save his uncle considering how Injured he was and this is already more than what he could've asked for as the man even bandaged him.

(Normal POV)

"How long have I been here?" Eragon asked as he had felt less pain so he'd assumed he'd been here for a while

"2 days." I answered.

"Wow, I haven't eaten for four mornings." Eragon commented.

"That's certainly a strange attitude to have." I commented off-handedly.

"I'm sorry, I never got your name." Eragon said and while surnames existed in this world, they were normally exclusive to nobility.

"You may call me Magnus." I said succinctly.

"I'm Eragon if you didn't already know I want to thank you again for...." Eragon started to speak but paused for what I can only assume was telepathic communication with Saphira.

He turned and adopted a serious look on his face.

"You have a dragon somewhere here?" Eragon asked surprising me slightly.

I sighed heavily as I didn't plan to reveal myself like this, I'd hoped to cultivate a relationship with either the Elves or the Varden explaining my existence as an ancient being to explain my magic. Then I would give a similar reason that Brom gave for how I ended up in Carvahall.

But I suppose it's true what they said about dragons that they could intrinsically sense others of their kind as Saphira had done multiple times throughout the series.

"I suppose there is no use in hiding it anymore." I said as I walked into my workshop and grabbed my trunk and walked outside and enlarged it and told my dragon to exit the trunk.

Eragon followed me curiously and saw me grow a clothes trunk of some sort and it opened on the ground and all of the sudden a huge burst of wind escaped the trunk and my dragon flew out and quickly landed on the ground in front of me and slowly walked over to me and I scratched his head.

Since I was exposed by Saphira, I decided to use this as an opportunity to learn the ancient language and magic along with Eragon from Brom.

Eragon was frightened by the large obsidian dragon that had appeared seemingly out of nowhere even though the dragon didn't seem to be threatening.

Before I could say anything, Saphira stalked Ober and growled at my dragon while standing protectively in front of Eragon.

"You can tell her she need not be cautious of my dragon or me, we mean you no harm." I said plainly.

Before Eragon could say anything, Saphira suddenly looked at my dragon entirely differently, I couldn't tell exactly what expressions she was making, but my dragon explained.

'It seems she now has some form of attraction to me as opposed to her earlier aggression. It is quite unnerving actually." My dragon said as she seemed to walk closer and rub her head on his.

It didn't last long as my dragon growled and sent out a wave of pressure which seemed very similar to the pressure my heavy magic released.

Saphira backed off and seemed almost sad as she lay in front of Eragon with her head on the ground lying on top of her arms.

"What just happened?" Eragon asked.

"I'm not exactly sure." I answered as I didn't want to be the one to explain that his dragon pretty much wanted to mate with mine but was rejected.

I felt a little bad as the same thing happened to her in the series with Glaedr I'm sure she would've attacked like she did Glaedr after the rejection were it not for the magical pressure he released and her younger age than when she met Glaedr as she was born only two months ago and hasn't gone through anything that would spark some more maturity and strength.

"I can't believe it, you are also a dragon rider?" Eragon asked.

"I suppose, according to what my dragon told me." I replied.

"You keep calling him 'My Dragon' have you not found a name for him yet? My dragon is Saphira" Eragon asked and explained.

"Not yet." I said.

Eragon then told me of the same list of names that he was given by Brom and my dragon was instantly drawn to one.

"I see, he has chosen Belgabad." I explained which brought a smile to Eragon's face after a pause as he happily explained what Saphira had said.

"That's a great name. According to Saphira, Belgabad was the name of her past ancestor Belgabad Brightscales, and judging by his size, he could be related as Belgabad was the largest dragon to exist during his time even though he was a wild dragon without a rider and he shared the same obsidian scales as your dragon." He said excitedly.

"That is certainly interesting, now we must get back to the issue at hand, your uncle is dying and I can't stop it, what will you do?" I asked which instantly dulled his excitement but I had to otherwise he would've never dealt with it as he would try to ignore it as is common during the five stages of grief as he is already denying that he's going to die even if it is subconsciously.
