"We should take a trip," Samantha announced over breakfast.
Four heads turned to stare at her—three adult, one infant who was currently attempting to make her oatmeal float in geometric patterns.
"A trip," Marcus repeated slowly, like he was testing the word for hidden traps.
"Yes. A normal, human, family trip. Somewhere that isn't here. Somewhere that doesn't have wards or sanctuaries or ancient magical anything."
Kai's fork paused halfway to his mouth. "You want to leave our sanctuary. With Nova. Who just yesterday turned the garden fountain into a temporary portal to what I'm pretty sure was another dimension."
"It was just the neighbor's yard," Callum corrected. "Though I'll admit, the neighbors were confused."
