After taking a hard look at all the technologies he had shared with various military contractors, Castle felt a chill run down his spine. In just a couple of years, he had provided groundbreaking advancements to some of the most powerful companies in the defense industry. These included a semi-autonomous flight control system, missile technology (including the Jericho and "Ex-Wife" micro missiles), engine performance upgrades, advanced explosives formulas, and the game-changing visual deflection stealth system. On top of that, he had developed the most advanced AI on Earth—J.A.R.V.I.S.—and recently signed agreements to transfer satellite technology to Lockheed Martin and Hughes.
Taken together, these contributions were staggering. Castle realized that he, a single person, had achieved what would normally require the combined efforts of entire R&D divisions. Each of these innovations was well ahead of its time, and now they were all in the hands of powerful corporations and the U.S. military. The implications of this were frightening.
The United States military was already a global powerhouse. Even without Castle's technologies, they had the resources to intervene in conflicts worldwide. Now, with enhanced drones that could fly farther and strike with more precision, and missiles that were smaller but deadlier, the balance of global military power was shifting even further. Reports were already coming in that the Air Force was planning to retrofit the F-22 with racks of "Ex-Wife" micro missiles to increase its payload.
Castle wasn't particularly altruistic or concerned with geopolitics, but he knew that continuing to haphazardly release advanced technologies could eventually backfire. One day, someone would connect the dots and start asking questions. If he wanted to continue living a peaceful, carefree life, he needed to rethink his approach.
Castle decided to confide in Gianna, who had come to visit with her husband, John, and their daughter. Upon hearing the full extent of what Castle had developed, Gianna was stunned. She had always known Castle was intelligent and resourceful, but this? This was on another level.
"You've developed all this... in just two years? Seriously?" Gianna's eyes widened as she struggled to comprehend the scope of his achievements.
"Well... I had help," Castle replied sheepishly. "The supercomputer lab and J.A.R.V.I.S. have been invaluable, and Harry—er, my assistant—has been great too."
Gianna rolled her eyes. "Oh, please. We both know Harry is a tech wizard, but there's no way he's responsible for even half of what you've done. Be honest, Rick. You've been holding out on us."
Castle scratched his head nervously. He couldn't exactly tell her the truth—that he had a database of knowledge from another universe's Tony Stark. Fortunately, Gianna didn't press the issue. Instead, she asked, "So, what's your plan now? You're telling me you want to stop doing these off-the-cuff technology deals?"
"Exactly," Castle nodded. "I've been too impulsive, throwing out new tech without thinking of the consequences. I need to approach things with more structure and foresight."
John chuckled from across the room. "Yeah, that sounds about right. You've always been a 'spur-of-the-moment' kind of guy. But didn't you set up a research company or something a while back? I remember Mozzie mentioning it."
Castle's eyes widened in realization. "Oh, crap! You're right! I asked Mozzie to handle the paperwork for a research and development lab. It was supposed to help with tax planning, but with everything going on, I completely forgot about it!"
Gianna burst out laughing. "Seriously? You forgot you own an entire R&D company? Wow, Rick. That's next-level scatterbrained, even for you."
Castle grinned sheepishly. "Hey, I've been busy! But you're right. I already have a framework in place. I can consolidate all my projects under that lab, assign future research through it, and make sure everything is more organized moving forward."
"That's a good start," Gianna said, regaining her composure. "But that's not the real issue here. You still haven't solved the root problem: your complete lack of planning. You've been reacting to situations as they come instead of thinking ahead."
Castle sighed. "You're not wrong. I tend to only invent things when the need arises—like when I developed the drone tech to help Harry monitor New York. And the satellite tech? That was just because I wanted better surveillance capabilities. None of it was part of a long-term plan."
Gianna's jaw dropped. "Wait... you're telling me all those technologies were created on the fly? As in, you just came up with them whenever you needed something?"
Castle nodded. "Yeah, pretty much. Except for the Jericho missile. That one was more deliberate because of my partnership with Northrop Grumman. But everything else was improvised."
Gianna exchanged a glance with John, who looked equally shocked. She took a deep breath and said, "Rick, do you even understand how extraordinary that is? Most companies spend years developing even a single groundbreaking technology, and you've been cranking them out left and right without breaking a sweat."
Castle shrugged. "I guess I never really thought about it that way."
Gianna shook her head in disbelief. "Rick, if word ever gets out that you can create world-changing tech on demand, you'll become the most hunted man on the planet. Every corporation, every government, and every black ops group will come after you. You're basically a one-man Manhattan Project!"
Castle finally grasped the gravity of the situation. "Shit... you're right. If they knew I could just... do this... they'd never leave me alone."
"Exactly," Gianna said firmly. "Right now, you have the advantage because no one knows the full extent of your abilities. But if you keep this up without a solid plan, it's only a matter of time before someone figures it out."
Castle leaned back in his chair, overwhelmed by the implications. For years, he had been taking his knowledge for granted, treating his inventions like hobbies. But now, he saw how dangerous his carefree attitude had been. If he wanted to protect himself, his family, and his future, he needed to take control of his narrative—before someone else did.
It was time to get serious.
