Chapter 617 - Chapter 627: Surrender and Sudden Change

Just as Deckard Shaw was keeping Dominic and his six-person crew on the run with his automatic rifle, the NYPD had had enough. The order came down for Beckett, now leading a sizable force of officers and an E.S.U. unit, to shut down the chaos erupting in Central Park. With both sides' backgrounds reported to Deputy Commissioner Montgomery, it was clear that although Dominic's gang was collaborating with a secret CIA task force, Beckett's orders were strict: if anyone failed to surrender immediately upon police entry, her team had the authority to shoot to kill. The Mayor himself had given the NYPD full permission to eliminate these brazen troublemakers on the spot.

As far as the NYPD was concerned, any unauthorized CIA involvement could be damned. This was their jurisdiction, and they weren't about to tolerate anyone, not even the CIA, turning Manhattan's Central Park into a battleground.

Castle, who'd been monitoring the situation through a direct line with Beckett, couldn't help but feel a surge of admiration for his friend, the Mayor, and the NYPD's unflinching stance. In a show of support, he ordered his tech team to lower their drones, ensuring they captured every detail to provide Beckett and her team with precise intelligence.

Meanwhile, Shaw, having learned of the encircling forces, was unfazed. Confident in his advantage, he remained determined to finish off Dominic—the man he blamed for his brother Owen's near-fatal injuries. If it hadn't been for that long-legged woman and O'Conner covering Dominic, Shaw would have eliminated him already. He had also been forced to deal with two pesky team members who kept flanking him from the side. Though only Gisele and O'Conner posed any real threat, Shaw couldn't ignore the suppressive fire from the others.

The standoff led them to a playground within the park, giving Beckett's fully armed officers the perfect opportunity to encircle both groups. Although Beckett now held the position of precinct captain, she still preferred leading from the front. Wearing a custom-made bulletproof vest gifted by Castle, she approached the perimeter of the encirclement with Espo and Ryan by her side. Realizing they were surrounded, the two factions ceased their firefight and took note of the approaching police.

Beckett stepped forward with a loudspeaker in hand. "This is the NYPD. Drop your weapons and surrender immediately, or we're authorized to shoot on sight."

Dominic and his team were quick to consider surrendering, hopeful that their CIA connection might afford them some leniency with the NYPD. What they didn't realize was that the CIA had already abandoned them, shifting focus to Castle and Harry. As for Shaw, he had no intention of surrendering. Wanted by British authorities for years, he knew his chances of extradition to the U.S. were high if he were taken in. Confident that the police's encirclement was not impenetrable, he stealthily crept towards Dominic's hiding spot.

What Shaw didn't know was that every movement he made was being tracked by the drones. Seeing Shaw attempting to ambush Dominic during her call to surrender, Beckett was instantly enraged.

"Deckard Shaw," she shouted, her tone unwavering, "you can't escape. My officers are armed with automatic rifles, and I have full authorization to shoot you dead if you resist. Drop your weapon and surrender, or I'll order my officers to close in. If you so much as twitch the wrong way, they'll open fire!"

Deckard paused, momentarily startled as Esposito, armed with a fully loaded FN SCAR, opened fire, peppering Shaw's vicinity with rounds. Shaw barely managed to avoid being hit, shocked by the heavy firepower of the NYPD. Since when did the NYPD carry NATO-caliber automatic rifles?

Shaw's chosen battleground was a carousel area in Central Park, offering a complex layout suitable for a single combatant like himself. However, as Beckett's team closed in, the area became more exposed, with few places to hide. Esposito's targeted burst forced Shaw into cover, temporarily stalling his aggression.

Seeing the heavy police presence surrounding them, Dominic and his team, realizing their precarious position, wisely raised their hands in surrender. They knew well the NYPD's reputation for decisively handling armed criminals. Dominic, a seasoned convict, quickly understood that resisting now would only lead to serious consequences, so he led his crew in giving up.

Shaw, on the other hand, continued to hide behind a massive tree. Beckett showed no intention of humoring him. "Shaw, you have nowhere to go. Every officer here is armed with high-powered automatic weapons, and we have full clearance to shoot to kill. So, let me be blunt. Surrender now with your hands above your head, or I'll order my team to close in. Any resistance on your part will be met with lethal force.

"Given your status as a wanted criminal in the UK, you should realize that we view you as a high-risk threat. Your only option is to drop your weapon, step out, and surrender to us."

Watching the live feed from his estate, Castle was dumbfounded by the sudden turn of events. He'd expected Shaw to put up a fierce fight and hoped it would provoke the police into completely eliminating both factions. But to his surprise, the supposedly fearless bikers had surrendered the moment they were surrounded, and Shaw appeared to be considering it too.

However, Castle's satisfaction was cut short when JARVIS interrupted with an update. "Sir, I've located the individual you asked me to track. He's currently at a private airport in the Bronx. It appears that, as you anticipated, he's preparing a civilian helicopter outfitted with a .50-caliber machine gun. His plan seems to be an attack on the police convoy transporting Dominic and his team, with the aim of eliminating them en route."

Castle tensed, alarmed at the prospect. Although confident in his ability to intercept this warlord with the missile-equipped drones, the idea of deploying such firepower within New York City gave him pause.

His priority now was to warn Beckett, who was still attempting to negotiate Shaw's surrender over the loudspeaker.
