Chapter 290 - Kai

Chapter 290 Kai

The man listened carefully to Aleshia's answers, trying to make sense of them. After a moment of silence to gather his thoughts, he spoke falteringly, "Um, I think I'm beginning to understand. Thank you for your patience and explanations." Afterward, he introduced himself, saying, "My name is Kai. I don't believe I caught your name, but I remember you mentioned Daniel. I'm assuming he must be alright since you brought him up, which means he should still be alive." As he was piecing things together in his head, he began to feel.

However, before he allowed the relief to settle in, he paused and placed a hand on his head, trying to think more deeply. He added, "I don't recall anyone named Ren in this orphanage." He spoke as if what he said were a fact, but unconsciously, he sensed that something was wrong. His body felt strange. In that moment, he realized something important, and a mix of hope, desperation, and despair flickered in his eyes as he asked, "Wait, how long have I been out?"

Aleshia recognized this same expression on the faces of the people she had cured. Not wanting to pull Kai further into despair, she aimed to convey her response as gently as possible. She replied hesitantly, "I don't know how long you've been unconscious, but it's been quite a while."

Kai looked shocked, but he gathered himself together. After thinking for a moment, he asked, "Have you been able to make this treatment work on anyone else, or is it just me?" His voice was filled with concern as he stammered the question.

Aleshia saw an opportunity to cheer him up and replied, "Yes, I have cured several others before you. In fact, Rebel has been able to get up, walk, and talk."

Kai chuckled and said, "That's good to hear; she has always been the fiercest among us all. When will I be able to get back to working condition?" He asked, understanding his circumstances.

Aleshia considered how long it would take for him to recover. Based on the time it took for Rebel and John to awaken after their cures, she estimated, "It might be two to three weeks. I'm not entirely sure, but in previous cases, I've found it usually takes under a month. After all, everyone is different." Aleshia paused, trying to think through the timeline.

"Isn't that right?" Kai joked. To break the ice and partly satisfy his own thirst and hunger, he asked, "Have you gotten any water or food? I think I'm starting to feel hungry and thirsty."

"Yes, right," Aleshia replied. "Let me get you some water." She then conjured the water and hovered it over Kai, allowing him to drink. He gave her an odd look but went ahead and drank the water.
