Chapter 593 - 593. The Skeleton Knight Who Rode the Lightning.

A Main Quest… it had been a long time since he'd seen those words appear.

The last time he triggered one was during the May Festival, in "The Specter's Revenge Festival", when he exterminated the wraiths.

The reward from that Main Quest was a new function for the Witcher Journal — "Divine Dreamwalking."

It was through that very function that he had "kicked" open the gates of the divine realm for the first time and beheld the Mother of All Things — the goddess of fertility, harvest, and birth — the eternal maiden, mother, and crone, protector of all: Melitele.

The gaze of the evil god had been banished, he had learned the truth about the divine realm's corruption by the White Frost, and even received a blessing of bountiful harvest from Melitele. Eight golden chests had merged into one crimson chest, unlocking the path of Beast Roar.

That moment had been a great turning point.

The revival of Melitele had played an enormous role in the later events — in thwarting the summoning ritual of the evil god, and in improving the quality of the treasure chests.

And with Melitele's revival, the priests of her temple had also begun to change — from healers and herbalists who once avoided using divine power in worldly affairs, they were gradually transforming into true clerics and priests.

Lysa had once mentioned that in just a few months, the divine arts of Melitele's clergy had improved greatly — and they still hadn't reached their limit. Their rate of progress was accelerating.

The temple was even planning to rebuild the Order of the Tulip Knights, Melitele's sacred paladins.

Perhaps next time he met Ianna, Nenneke, or Lysa, when they faced another descent of an evil god, things would not be like before.

The priests of Melitele's temple would no longer merely serve as healers aiding the Aedirn army and the Aretuza sorceresses, but would stand on their own as a true, independent force.

Before that, the quest "The Birth of the Witcher Corps" had granted the Corps System — and that reward needed no explanation.

Thanks to that system, Erni, Klar, and the others had achieved in half a year what would normally take a witcher five years. Their coordinated hunts of large monsters — Alghouls and hordes of ghoulish creatures — were all recorded achievements.

Armed with potions, Battle Roar, and weapon oils, their strength and growth far surpassed that of ordinary witchers.

The only reason they hadn't drawn much attention was that Allen had always been involved in high-level conflicts — battles against Vilgefortz, Great Griffins, Evil Gods, even the reckless invasion of Drakenborg.

Those were the kinds of events ordinary witchers couldn't even approach — even masters like Vesemir and Danthe would find them taxing and perilous.

But in regular missions, they were already fully capable of handling themselves.

For example, the recent chaos in Kaer Village, caused by refugees and lurking ghoul packs, had been swiftly resolved — thanks in large part to the disciplined and resourceful young witchers.

They simply needed more time to grow.

Besides, the existence of Erni, Klar, and the others was itself significant — they were extensions of Allen's influence and authority within the School of the Wolf.

Any witcher master who witnessed the rapid rise of such a group would instinctively be unable to underestimate him.

And as for the apprentices, Allen didn't even need to personally step in. The younger witchers like Spencer and Clay, who often mingled with the trainees, spread his reputation naturally — making his image almost legendary among ordinary apprentices.

To put it bluntly — even if, during the harshest winter, the witchers of the Wolf School refused to acknowledge Allen as Vesemir's successor, or even tried to expel him for some reason,

Allen could still rely on the Witcher Legion — just as Erland of Larvik had done for the Griffins, Ivar Evil-Eye for the Vipers, and Arnaghad for the Bears — to build a new foundation beyond the Wolf School itself.

Of course, that was almost impossible to happen.

But overall, the Witcher Corps remained Allen's most solid cornerstone — the steady, deliberate foundation upon which he stood in this world.

And before all that came "The Visitor from Another World", whose reward — Conjunction of the Spheres — was the very core of everything that followed.

-----------------------------------

Almost all the main storyline quest rewards were extremely useful.

Allen thought as he glanced at the bloody battlefield where the undead and ghouls were locked in a brutal struggle. Then, with a flicker of thought—

[Quest: Revival of the World]

[Quest Type: Main Quest (First Stage)]

[Quest Description:

Main Objective: Perform three Phase One "Conjunction of the Spheres" (must be completed).

Secondary Objective: Eliminate all monsters that have crossed over from other realms. (The number of monsters eliminated will determine the quality and quantity of the final rewards.)]

[Quest Progress: Conjunction of the Sphere Phase One – 2/3]

[Note: You are the path discovered by a dying world. It yearns to return to its former glory.]

"Just one more Conjunction of the Sphere?"

The witcher froze for a moment, not expecting this main quest to be so simple.

Of the two completed fusions, the first should have been at Ban Ard—during the Wolf and Cat School apprentice dueling tournament—where Allen released one, taking the opportunity to kill "The Glutton" Henselt.

The second time was the one before his eyes now.

In the "dream," before Ciri and the King of the Wild Hunt, Eredin Bréacc Glas, he had released another Conjunction of the Sphere. Perhaps because Ciri's Elder Blood power was involved, it had been upgraded to Phase Three and thus wasn't counted.

Or maybe the "dream world" simply didn't belong to the same realm as his own...

"The path found by a dying world…" he muttered under his breath, pondering the new note that appeared in a main quest for the first time.

"But 'Main Quest (Stage One)'…" he mused. "So this is the first time it's appearing. Like the online games from my past life—multi-ring main quests. If one ring means three Phase One fusions, then does the second ring mean three Phase Two fusions?"

"It doesn't specify how many monsters summoned by Conjunction of the Spheres need to be eliminated. It only says that the number will affect the final quality and amount of the reward…"

The witcher absentmindedly tapped the trunk of a pine tree with his right hand. "That Conjunction of the Sphere in Ban Ard—the Drowner King and the Bog Nymph were both killed, along with many Drowners, though definitely not all of them."

That couldn't be helped. After all, Ban Ard was one of the largest cities in Kaedwen.

Even though Hen Gedymdeith had opened the permissions for the Wolf School witchers and paid them a fortune in bounties—

The crisscrossing streets, the deep city sewer system, and the nearby Liksela River all ensured that—No matter how hard the Wolf School witchers worked, countless Drowners were bound to escape.

"But the second Conjunction of the Sphere…"

Allen glanced beyond the pine forest. The once lush woodland was now a wasteland—scattered corpses, broken trees, and uneven craters everywhere.

Among the ghoul swarms, even though the Ghouls had formed an organized army under the Corpse King and Corpse Queen, improving their coordination and lethality, they were still no match for the massive undead horde controlled by Ban Ard's mages.

At first, the ghouls repelled several undead assaults, but soon the battle fell into a stalemate.

Unable to endure the relentless, tide-like advance of the undead, the Corpse King and Queen launched multiple breakout attempts—but every time, they were overwhelmed by the surging dead.

Though both leaders were powerful and capable of casting enhancement-like spells to strengthen the ghouls—

The brutal nature of the Conjunction of the Sphere's teleportation had already left the six great ghoul creatures heavily injured.

In barely ten minutes, more than half the ghouls were dead, and nearly half of the kings and queens were wounded.

Of course, the undead suffered even greater losses—

But their numbers were simply overwhelming, and Ban Ard's necromancers didn't care about casualties. Thus, it was almost certain—this pack of ghouls would be completely annihilated here.

Right now, they were just struggling on their last breath.

"This is actually the perfect place to complete the quest," the witcher thought.

Surrounded by nearly ten thousand undead—enough to wipe out any monsters summoned by a Phase One Conjunction of the Sphere.

To weaken Ban Ard's forces while completing his own quest—what a delightful opportunity.

Yet, the witcher still had his concerns.

It wasn't that the number of Conjunction of the Spheres was insufficient—

[Ding! Hunting Quest: Rotfiend II (Eliminate Rotfiends 100/100), pending completion!]

[Ding! Hunting Quest: Alghoul II (Eliminate Alghouls 20/20), pending completion!]

He still had two Phase Two hunting quests on hand, and after completing this stage of the main quest, there would even be one extra overflowing.

What truly concerned him, however, was the potential impact of the next Conjunction of the Sphere release.

The main quest could be completed at any time—it wasn't going anywhere.

If he truly wanted to ensure complete annihilation, he could simply choose a place like Old Speartip's cave—terrain with only one or two entrances—ideal for summoning.

But if he missed this chance, with Ban Ard's necromancers actively performing necromancy here, finding another opportunity like this again…

The witcher gently shook his head. That was almost impossible—especially after saving Hen Gedymdeith and once the Wolf School and Ban Ard reached some sort of peace agreement.

"No rush," the witcher took a deep breath, suppressing the restlessness in his chest. "Only a patient hunter can become the best hunter."

"To watch a Free Elf escape right before my eyes, then witness the grand spectacle of a Conjunction of the Sphere, and even discover two massive monsters—the Corpse King and Corpse Queen—creatures never before seen in the witcher's world…"

"The necromancers of Ban Ard will only grow more desperate than I am."

Having made up his mind, the witcher no longer hesitated.

He concealed himself within the withered forest, melding completely with the pine tree beneath him—as if he had become one with the land itself.

-----------------------------------

After that—

A messenger bird came once.

After expressing her gratitude, Francesca described in detail the casualties of the Free Elves that night and their next destination. She also truthfully explained that her guards had discovered the messenger bird and guessed the source of the grand anomaly. She promised him that no third person would ever learn of it.

But Allen didn't really mind.

Even before releasing the Conjunction of the Sphere, he had already thought it through.

In this world, the Free Elves—rejected and persecuted by humans—were the natural allies of the Wolf School and of him.

Those who most eagerly awaited the events prophesied by Ithlinne—the arrival of the Child of Destiny, the "nonhumans bringing blood and fire," and "the destroyer of nations"—were also the Free Elves.

Besides, the existence of Conjunction of the Sphere was no longer a secret known only to him. Vesemir, Sol, and Vera might not know the full details, but they surely had some guesses.

Even Ada Emein had merely failed to think deeply about it.

Otherwise, given that she already knew the identity of the "Child of Destiny," once she connected that with Allen's past experiences, it would only be a matter of time before she realized who had guided the Conjunction of the Spheres.

More importantly, the Free Elves were now weak and surrounded by enemies on all sides. They could rely only on him and the Wolf School.

Of course, as Francesca had said, it was better that not too many others knew about it.

After sending his letter to reassure Francesca that she could safely depart, the witcher once again tested "Beast Roar: Wild Speech" and "Beast Roar: Whisper of Life."

Yet this land, fouled by necromancy, seemed to have completely slipped from the Mother of Nature's grasp.

Even the Whisper of Life was confused by the corrupted aura. The "radar" that should have clearly outlined the movements of all living beings within a few miles was now shrouded in a dim gray mist.

All he could do was watch as the hordes of undead, like marching ants, devoured every last corpse-eater—leaving only the mangled remains of the Corpse Kings and Corpse Queens.

But even after the brutal battle ended, things didn't develop the way he had expected.

The broken bodies of the Corpse Kings and Queens lay exposed in the center of the withered forest under the starlit sky. Nearly an hour passed, yet no necromancer appeared—nor did the undead move to process or retrieve the remains.

The necromancers of Ban Ard, going against the instincts of any true mage, had completely abandoned these rare and exotic corpses.

And after the undead finished destroying the corpse-eaters, they didn't march east to hunt the Free Elves either.

Instead, another massive wave of undead surged in from the east.

It seemed the necromancers of Ban Ard had entirely given up on the Free Elves and turned their attention toward him.

They were certain that the bizarre celestial phenomenon caused by the Conjunction of the Sphere was no coincidence—and even more certain that he, the one who had caused it, was still hiding in this withered forest.

Driven by greed and caution alike, they redirected all undead forces to search for his whereabouts.

Perched atop the pine tree, Allen watched the undead roaming below. For a moment, he felt as though he were playing chess with a cold, calculating opponent.

He had thought himself a patient hunter—but in truth, until the end, no one knew who was the hunter and who was the prey.

The withered forest grew utterly silent once the sounds of battle between the Free Elves and the undead to the east faded away.

Rustle… rustle…

It was so quiet that the witcher on the pine tree could clearly hear the friction of undead bodies brushing against the undergrowth and soil—as if countless snakes slithered in the darkness, watching for their prey.

The undead gathered in ever greater numbers.

When, not far away, one withered tree after another began to topple—some by accident, some with purpose—Allen knew this test of patience was lost.

"Haah…"

He looked up at the slowly sinking moon and let out a quiet sigh.

[Ding! Hunting Quest: Rotfiend II (Kill 100/100) — Pending Completion!]

[Ding! Conjunction of the Sphere: 'Rotfiend' Phase One — Choose a fusion location! (If the host does not choose, a random location will be locked in after 30 seconds.)]

"Boom!"

As the scarlet countdown in his eyes reached zero, the heavens and earth trembled once again. Countless black holes spread across the sky once more.

But just then—something unexpected happened.

"Boom!"

A flash of lightning split the clear night sky, illuminating the withered forest teeming with wraiths.

The witcher's instincts reacted to the creeping sense of dread. He raised his head without thinking.

Another deafening thunderclap followed.

Lightning once again tore across the sky.

In the darkness, a milky-white ribbon of light unfurled, writhing like a serpent across the heavens.

And along that ribbon appeared countless blurred, horrifying figures of mounted riders.

It was the Wild Hunt!

The skeletal knights who march across worlds in conquest!
