Chapter 7 - Treasure in a Crystal Tune

Both of them started arguing, and within seconds they were suddenly allies, ready to face the crystal mage. (Can't remember his name).

A bunch of crystal clones began emerging from the ground. One of them went straight for the mages in Yuno's group (couldn't recall their names either, something like "New Dawn"), but Luck shattered it with a single kick.

While they got ready for the fight, I started deciding what music I was going to play. I felt more comfortable than in the last dream; I could even feel my hands vibrating with excitement. It's a little sad I'm not with the Fairy Tail mages, but maybe I'll get to visit many magical places to help out.

Something exciting… maybe one of their openings… "But… I only know Black Catcher, and I need a piano… and to know how to play piano." (Note to self: take piano lessons.)

Okay, let's think.

Through the Fire and Flames? …Yeah, no. I'm not at that level yet. Maybe I should dust off Guitar Hero and train a little.

Oh!, what about Knights of Cydonia from the same game? They're magic knights, right? Feels fitting.

Or I could try something elemental, but wind didn't really help, so no Yuno Power-up, so that's out. Maybe something wild and electrifying like "Misirlou" for Noelle… Actually, no, she's a total wild card.

Alright then, Knights of Cydonia it is.

The crystal clones were attacking everyone. I hung back, far enough to avoid getting smacked around, but close enough to keep my eyes on the action. Asta sliced a massive sword in half with his own… which, let's be honest, was also massive. "heh! overcompensating?"

No, Ren. Focus.

I gripped my guitar and struck the first chords.

"This one's for the magic knights of the Clover Kingdom, fighting to bring honor to their name! I give you, Knights of Cydonia!"

The sound washed over the battlefield, the rhythm pushing faster and faster. With every strum, magic pulsed out of me.

As I hit the faster section, the mages' energy seemed to spike, everyone except Asta. My magic couldn't reach him, but his strength didn't falter for a second. He drove his sword into the crystal mage's gut, sending him flying.

Yuno's wind magic turned sharper, cutting through clones like butter.

Noelle stood guarding the healing mage, but her water spells burst from her wand like they had a mind of their own, wild, yet cutting down clones with no problem.

The other mage… was just standing there, muttering nonsense.

The crystal mage rose again, his shards swirling around him, merging into the hulking form of a golem.

I grinned.

♪ And how can we win, when fools can be kings? Don't waste your time, or time will waste you… ♪

Asta glanced my way, mouthed something I couldn't catch, then shouted at full volume, "THAT'S RIGHT, I'M GONNA BE THE WIZARD KING!"

Before the golem could even take a step, Asta charged, and for the first time my magic actually reached him. His muscles seemed to shine, veins standing out like veins on top of veins (I swear I saw that from where I was).

One swing, just one, and the golem shattered. The crystal mage hit the ground hard, instantly immobilized. The clones all crumbled away in sync with the start of the chorus.

When the last chord faded, I slung the guitar over my shoulder and strolled toward the others.

The Black Bull mages grinned at me, while the other mages went on guard.

I glanced at the mage who hadn't moved a muscle and said, "I don't know how I got here, but for now, let's just say I'm on your side. My name is…"

A pink-haired guy's smirk flashed in my mind.

"Heh… my name is Tempo."

The Black Bull mages exchanged glances, a mix of curiosity and amusement flashing in their eyes. "Tempo, huh?" Luck said, stepping forward with a cocky grin. "Never heard that name around here. You new?, Want to fight?"

Klaus adjusted his glasses, eyeing me like I was a stray cat that wandered into the palace. "Tempo? Never heard of you. And your attire is… unusual."

"Coming from a guy wearing shoulder armor shaped like a bookcase," I replied.

Luck's grin widened. "I like him already. So a fight?"

I shrugged, tuning the strings absentmindedly. "Sort of. More like 'temporarily here. Also please no, I don't have fighting power, only support magic.'"

Noelle crossed her arms, raising an eyebrow. "Wait, you're just going to trust some random guy who popped out of nowhere?, You're not from this kingdom, are you?"

Asta stepped forward, sword in hand but not hostile. "If he says he's on our side, we'll find out soon enough. Besides..." he glanced at me with that reckless smile of his, "I've got a feeling about him."

"Uh, yeah. Something like that," I replied, trying to sound casual. "Got dropped into the middle of your little magic party."

Luck chuckled, cracking his knuckles. "Well, you're in the right place if you want some action."

Asta nodded fiercely. "You fight alongside us, Tempo, you're one of us."

I smiled, "Alright, guess I'm a magic knight now."

Klaus hastily adjusted his glasses "No, You're not!, you need to do the exam, and be recognized by..." I tuned him down, just a rambling dude.

Yuno, calm and focused, gave me a small nod. "Just don't slow us down."

Mimosa tilted her head politely. "Um… do you use magic?"

I patted my guitar. "Something like that, as I said, I'm support, my music can give boosts, but I'm still figuring out which boosts I can give."

Luck's eyes lit up like a kid seeing candy. "Boosts? Can you make me faster? Stronger? Both?! Please say Both!"

I raised a brow. "Depends. Do you want fast like lightning, or fast like I skipped the last three choruses of a song?"

Luck smiled "I'll take that you said both, I can't wait to come back and fight the captain"

Klaus cleared his throat, stepping past us toward the collapsed mage. "Enough chatter. I'll restrain him with my Steel Creation Magic."

Metal bands formed in the air, twisting and locking around his arms and legs with a sharp clang.

I tilted my head. "Not bad. Very... Artistic."

Klaus shot me a look. "This isn't art, it's protocol."

"Could be both," I muttered.

Mimosa knelt nearby, trying to heal Yuno's shoulder but her magic hasn't recovered she frowned.

While Luck just stared at the mage from diamond kingdom like he was waiting for him to wake up so the fun could start again.

Asta started yelling, "Ahhh, my clothes! They're all dirty!"

Luck grinned. "When we get back to the guild, ask Vanessa to help you clean them."

Mimosa handed out medicine to everyone since she didn't have enough magic yet to heal them. Asta began chewing the herbs and talking with his mouth full. "Are those restraints really enough?"

Klaus took offense and barked, "Of course they're enough! My magic isn't that fragile!"

I couldn't remember much from the anime or manga in this arc. I mostly rewatched the later seasons and the whole demon plot. If I was remembering right, this mage eventually turned good, but I also didn't think he went down this easily.

"Hey… maybe you should reinforce it, just in case. I'm not saying it's weak, but honestly, we don't know if he has some hidden magic artifact."

Klaus frowned, clearly irritated, but he adjusted his glasses and muttered, "Fine. Just to silence any unnecessary concerns." He layered another set of metal bindings over the mage lying down, the rings snapping into place with a sharp metallic sound.

Noelle tilted his head. "Overkill, but not bad."

Mimosa let out a small sigh of relief. "Better safe than sorry."

Leaning on my guitar, I commented, "Putting that aside, what exactly are we doing here?"

They all stared at me incredulously. "We're in a dungeon."

I looked back at them. "Though you might not believe me, I already told you, I don't know how I got here. But for now, I'm on your side, and I plan to help."

Yuno, expressionless as always, said, "We're searching for the dungeon's treasure."

Klaus stepped forward. "It's behind this door. We were the first to arrive and win the fight, but we'll allow you entry as a special case."

Offended, Asta shouted, "Who died and made you king of the world, four-eyes?! We won the fight, idiot!"

"Hey, how do we open the door?" I asked, resting my guitar on my back.

Silence fell until Luck said to Asta, "Since it's magical, maybe your sword can break it."

Asta didn't hesitate, he swung his sword, and the door shattered.

Inside, we saw piles of treasure: jewels, magical artifacts. Everyone rushed to grab something. Luck found a vase that teleported him to another vase. Others spotted weapons.

Yuno approached a podium with a scroll resting on it.

Klaus started yelling, "Hey! All this is national treasure! Leave it alone, some of it could be dangerous!"

The scroll glowed, reacting with Yuno's grimoire.

While they were distracted, I noticed the bird (the girl Secre transformed) pulling Asta toward a wall. But my eyes kept darting back to the other mage. His body was starting to ignite, flames licking his skin, but the fire seemed to be healing him rather than burning him.

"Oh, crap."

I grabbed my guitar quickly and shouted to Luck, "Hey, Thunder Boy, attack him! He's recovering fast, come on, move!"

I launched a long magic rift and started playing a song that pushed speed and persistence.

Driver's High by L'Arc~en~Ciel (English version)

I unleashed the second magic rift, the air shimmering with energy. The opening chords of Driver's High echoed through the cavernous dungeon, a surge of sound electrifying the place.

♪"I'll light the fuse to my heated silver metallic heart..."♪ The melody soared, kicking off the battle.

Luck charged forward, thunder crackling around his legs as he launched a fierce attack on the recovering mage. Sadly, He healed faster than expected, but he still couldn't break free of all the metal bindings. He stood, only to take a full-charged kick from Luck.

Luck grinned like a demon, feeling his body crackling with energy, his thunder wanted to move, to dance, to break free. He cackled with laughter.

♪"Because I'm feeling highly wondrous, so let's blowing up the cloud of dust and go on."♪

The mage rose again, face bruised, his body reforming with jagged crystals, but the magical flames still flickered over him.

Klaus murmured, "That shouldn't be possible... two elements."

Noelle readied herself, pointing her wand and gathering magic for an attack. The diamond mage sneered and lunged at her, but Asta intercepted, he was overpowered and flew away crashing through a wall.

Noelle responded with her Water Dragon, which danced perfectly in sync with the music's rhythm. Diamond guy recovered quickly, but the flames had died down. He slammed his hands into the ground, reshaping his golem and trapping Klaus and Yuno, preventing them from using their grimoires.

"Damn," I thought, but I kept playing, singing on: ♪"My heart beat mixes with screams and goes out of control, there's a rain of missiles in front of me..."♪

Lightning arced from Luck's palms, striking the crystal golem repeatedly, each hit amplified by the pounding beat. Anger fueled every strike, his power growing.

Suddenly, Asta returned, almost flying, a new sword in hand, smashing the golem's hands.

Yuno broke free and, supported Asta, breaking the crystal swords the enemy hurled to stop the white-haired dwarf. During the skirmish, Asta was pushed back toward Noelle and Mimosa.

♪"Overtaking the city until the end of this world, speeding up and dying like lover's suicide. So come on, reach out your hand!!"♪ The chorus approached.

Asta turned to Noelle, they talked something, he turned back his gaze brimming with newfound confidence. He shouted, "Maybe I don't have magic, but I have my friends!"

The chorus hit full force.

Asta roared, "I'M GOING TO BREAK MY LIMITS!!!!"

♪"To the best Finale! YEAH!"♪

Yuno, finally free, launched a spiraling air cannon, shattering the crystals the enemy threw at them. But something was off, the wind was stronger than before, like a concentrated storm crushing the crystal golem.

With unimaginable speed, the golem was hurled across the dungeon to the far side.

"What the hell was that?" Klaus said, finally freed from the crystals.

♪"Until we meet again in the afterlife!"♪ I finished the song.

I set my guitar down and sighed. "Well, that went better than expected."

The crystal mage's magic halted completely, and his energy vanished.

Yuno stood silently, deep in thought. Asta sank down, exhausted, and looked at his new sword, but it suddenly moved on its own and slipped into his grimoire.

A thunderous crash echoed through the dungeon as the floor began to crack.

"Oh no! The treasure!" I said, staring in horror.
