Chapter 3 - Magic Breakers

"There's blood everywhere. What have the three of you been doing?" Cesar appeared behind my sisters and me.

They both disappeared, but Cesar stayed behind.

Dola's servant Cesar was a pain in the ass, and I hated everything about him. He was a water hellspawn of the lowest status. He started watching me from a distance after Dola sent him to question me about the sorcerer.

"Dola can rest assured that human is not a sorcerer. She is using too much energy on their dwindling numbers."

Cesar stared at me blankly.

I walked, and he followed me. He only followed Dola's instructions. I shouldn't complain; Cedar is the same way. This war needs to end quickly. I despise the sorcerers and their destruction of our people. We were a chaotic people, but we never intentionally harmed anyone. The sorcerers deemed us evil, and we were forced into a war we didn't want.

"Cesar, stay here! I will talk to the human alone. If you sense magic, feel free to step in at any point and kill the sorcerer. I can handle one sorcerer, but I know you have a personal vendetta." I smiled.

Cesar looked uncomfortable but stayed quiet. Cesar and Cedar had their village massacred by the sorcerers.

They went to great lengths to get the attention of my sisters and me. Cedar was a warrior much like myself. He chose to use his water manipulation in creative ways and killed many sorcerers with their own magic, while Cesar was more mischievous and sneaky. He spied on the sorcerers from a distance and used water to poison dozens of those bastards. Cesar has always been untrustworthy, but my sister refuses to see his lack of loyalty and only his murderous intent toward sorcerers.

I sighed as I entered the dining room. The Yanas were great at creating grand meals for all species that crossed their paths. Yanas haunted the forests and seas; with dual personalities, they lured humans and sorcerers alike into a false sense of security. They were then very good at dismemberment and used to serve each other parts of their kill. All that to say, we had to ban them from serving humanoid parts for food in the city.

The man sat at the end of the table, looking skinny and weak around all of the food. "You can eat. If it's poisoned, at least you will die with a full belly."

He didn't laugh at my joke or start eating. "I am not a sorcerer. I was chasing a rabbit…"

I laughed. "I do not need a made-up story. I believe you are no sorcerer. Though I do sense something in you, and I am not sure who sent you."

His eyes widened. "P…Pl…Please. You are the war demon, Dalia. I hav…have heard of your brutality. But I promise, there is no lie that I would tell you. I was chasing a rabbit that talked. It…it also…set the fire."

I looked at the sorcerer in disbelief. "Were you in the middle of the flames long?"

"Yes."

"What is your name, human?"

"Adam."

Adam. His eyes were sincere. "You will be my mate from now on."
