The next day was Saturday, and I had no school. I woke up early and looked at my phone right away. There was a picture from Jake. It was a photo of a cute dog sitting in front of a big bakery.
Jake: "Look at this dog! He sat next to me while I ate a muffin."
I smiled and wrote back quickly.
Me: "So cute! Did you pet him?"
Jake: "Yes! He was very friendly."
Then he sent a funny video of the dog wagging its tail and sneezing at the same time. I laughed so hard my mom looked over and asked what was so funny. I showed her the video.
"That's adorable," she said. "I'm glad you and Jake are keeping in touch."
Later, I went outside to play basketball. I missed playing with Jake. He was always the best at three-point shots. I tried to shoot from the far line like he did, but I missed. Then I tried again. And again. On the fourth try, I made it!
"Yes!" I shouted. I smiled, even though I was alone.
