At her front door, he set her down. She opened it, said thank you, and then hurriedly shut it, seemingly not wanting him to be seen by someone inside.
After she closed the door, before she could even calm herself, she heard a gloomy voice from behind her.
"Who was that man who brought you home?"
She spun around quickly. In the pitch-black living room, she could faintly make out the figure of a man in a wheelchair. She flipped on the light, flooding the room in brightness. The man instinctively shielded his eyes with his hand, as if he wasn't used to such strong light.
Wang Manman struggled to change her shoes, grimacing from the pain as she walked over to him.
"He's a customer from the bar. He saw I'd sprained my ankle and brought me home. There's nothing going on between us. It's completely innocent, so don't let your imagination run wild."
