Yunyi gave a few more instructions to the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law, then turned and left the patient's room.
Checking the time, after all that commotion, it was nearly the end of her shift.
Just as she returned to her office, Doctor Qiu followed her in. "Yunyi," he said, "I'll take your shift tonight, and you can repay the favor next time."
Doctor Qiu also noticed something unusual. Knowing that things might become unstable soon, he worried that if something happened at night, Yunyi, being a young woman, might not be able to handle it. He thought it would be better for him to cover the night shifts for everyone in the coming days.
Yunyi knew Doctor Qiu meant well. "Doctor Qiu," she said, "you've forgotten that I have martial arts skills. I'll be fine."
Doctor Qiu still wanted to say something, but fearing he would insist further, Yunyi said decisively, "My partner is coming over, and he can accompany me on my shift tonight. You don't need to worry."
