Griselda's body feels heavy, like a sack of wet vegetables. The stone walls of the room are blurry as tears well up her eyes, and the flickering lamp seems to be melting.
She's leans on his body, sobbing so hard that she can barely breathe. Aidan just holds her close and he doesn't say anything. He just lets her cry into his chest and she can feel his heart beating in slow rhythm.
"I... I lost it," she sobs, her voice sounding so broken. "I was going to tell you, but then everything…" She begins to say but ends up crying again.
He holds her tighter. "It's okay, Griselda," he says with a low voice. "It's okay. You're here now. That's what matters."
"No, it's not," she cries, pulling away to look at him. Her eyes are red and puffy. "I should have told you. I was so scared of your reaction, I was so scared. I lost the pregnancy due to my carelessness."
