"Jay..." Jay Pleng whispered to her partner as her hand gripped the back of his shirt. "You're going to be okay. I got the pills with me. We just need a place for you to rest."
There's nothing she could do but to give him placebo. Even though she studied the Wonder Liquid before the faithful day that her father took her to Mr. Romanov's house, she didn't really remember the long term side effects of not getting a dosage for more than a month. She only knew that missing more than three consecutive dosage would make a war machine very aggressive and sometimes crazy, doing whatever it takes to get some.
Her partner has been off the liquid for over a month. Thus, she's been feeding him painkillers whenever the side effects got too bad. She told him that he could totally cut it off, and that the side effects are just normal withdrawal symptoms.
Jay Pleng was fooling herself as much as she was fooling him.
