It took the man about five minutes to unlock her front door.
Inside, the place had been empty for quite some time, devoid of human presence, with white cloth covering the sofa and other furniture.
Yan Yinuo stared blankly at the things inside. Her mother really wasn't home? And had she left a long time ago? Where did she go?
A string of questions made Yan Yinuo's heart feel anxious and chaotic.
It wasn't until John's voice came from behind that she snapped back to reality.
"Well, my mother has gone out. Please have a seat and make yourself at home. I only have plain water to offer..." Yan Yinuo's face flashed with an embarrassed look.
While he was unlocking the door, she chatted with him a bit, and only then did they learn each other's names.
John chuckled, revealing a set of pearly white teeth. "It's fine, you go ahead and tidy up. I'm heading out for a run, we can chat next time."
"Alright, thanks for today."
"We're neighbors, friends too, no need to thank me."
