After escaping to the bathroom, I found a stall to sit and think for a while, first trying to figure out if I was dreaming.
In front of me, near the sink, a few female teachers had apparently walked in, engaging in a lively conversation:
"I just saw it, that substitute teacher ran out from Class Three."
"It was bound to happen! Who does she think she is? Just someone new here, thinking she's so capable, able to replace a regular teacher? Those twins in Class Three, especially that Lu Na, are already famously known as the little princess in the compound."
"Don't you say, that Teacher Liu did it on purpose. Don't you know, Teacher Liu has long been displeased with young substitute teachers?"
Teacher Liu, the head teacher of Class Three, was almost forty years old.
"This is because our kindergarten is undergoing reforms, aiming to level the salary disparity between substitute and regular teachers. The cake is only so big; if one gets more, another has to get less."
