The Dragon people were busy, preparing this year's spring lotus-root planting. The early spring chill still bit; tourists coming and going on the river wrapped themselves in white wool-padded jackets as they picked out King's lotus roots. When the mood struck, they would personally ride Water Spiders into the water to harvest the very last crop of winter lotus root.
Lotus root was available nearly year-round, and because the harvest seasons differed, there were different ways to eat it.
