Redbrook's graveyard anchor did not look magical.
It was a waist-high stone post beside the churchyard gate. Rain and thousands of passing hands had worn its top smooth. A carved symbol of an open door faced the road.
The graves behind it were not decoration.
Golden Axe arrived while a funeral entered through the opposite gate. Six mill workers carried a wooden coffin. A woman and two children followed beneath black ribbons, accompanied by neighbors and friends who came to support the family.
The graveyard attendant asked the outsiders to wait before approaching the anchor.
Golden Axe moved aside without complaint.
The dead man had fallen into the river while freeing a jammed waterwheel. Corathen's healers recovered his body but could not restore him. His eternal soul would eventually be used again by the dungeon core, but the new person would not be the mill worker remembered by his wife and children.
To Redbrook, he was dead.
