The reply from Evan's family arrived wrapped around a drawing.
The Sanctuary courier placed it in his hand after his morning shift at the stables. Evan recognized his mother's writing immediately. He sat on an overturned bucket beside an empty stall and unfolded the letter carefully enough not to tear the smaller sheet inside.
His little sister had drawn the wooden horse he sent her.
At least, Evan assumed it was the horse. It had six legs, a purple mane, and what appeared to be wings. The crooked wheel had been drawn much larger than the other three.
Elly had named it Lord Limpington. Evan laughed loudly enough to make the mare in the next stall raise her head.
