Chapter 49 - Reunion (Short Chapter)

The room was silent.

"Who the hell starts a conversation up like that? I just got here!".

Sunny grumbled in indignation.

Kai face had turned red.

Nephis was as stoic as ever.

Cassia was a tomato.

Effie on the other hand was grinning.

"Wow, who says that to a pure maiden nowadays".

Isaac gave a quick look over before his gaze stopped at Effie.

"I doubt you can call yourself "pure" or a "maiden" for one, or have you forgotten how you used to be-".

Before he could finish, Effie was already at his side.

Her hands shot out clamping over his mouth.

"Haha what are you talking about".

Although Effie tried to phrase it as a question it was clear that it was a hidden statement.

Speak anymore and you're dead.

Isaac's gaze locked onto her disfigured form for only a moment then nodded.

Signing Effie finally let go of his mouth.

Cassia suddenly stepped forward.

"All jokes aside how have you been?".

Cassia asked her voice tinged with concern.

"So are we just- ouch! ahh Effie what the hell".

Effie rolled back with her wheelchair, placing one of its wheels on top of Sunny's foot.

She then placed force on the wheel of the wheelchair, making sure it didn't break.

That didn't stop Sunny's toes from feeling pain however.

A small round of chuckles echoed within the room.

"Answering your question, I am fine".

Isaac responded, his monotone voice reaching throughout the room.

Combined with his neutral expression it looked as if his mind had shattered, or his emotions had overwhelmed him completely.

But the cohort knew Isaac way too well.

They knew that this was regular behavior.

Of course that didn't make it easier for them either.

One of their close friends that have been through the same tragedy known as the Forgotten Shore.

Who had even sacrifice himself in the end to allow them to escape into the Waking World.

It's safe to say their affection for each other was quite strong.

Even if some affections were deeper than others.

And to add insult to injury, this friend of theirs had come back as an Ascended Master.

Which could only mean one thing.

He had to challenge the Second Nightmare as a Sleeper and won.

The burden that must've put him through, would've been immense.

This too wait on the minds of the cohort members.

"You're safe now... I hope you can find help if you need it".

Kai said, his voice was gentle and calm as of trying to soothe something unstable.

Isaac's indifferent gaze move towards Kai.

'He can detect lies'.

Isaac couldn't help but feel annoyed.

Not at Kai, but at himself.

It was not as if he forgot Kai's Flaw but that he simply didn't take it into account when talking to Cassia.

This inadvertently let his lie being exposed.

In truth, Isaac was the farthest thing from fine.

Being forced to remember everything he had experienced.

The pain of being torn up, the constant sounds of crunching bones as he fought creatures beyond himself, and the sickening pull of the white mist calling him towards oblivion.

All those experiences have been permanently ingrained into his being.

Any normal person would've long gone mad but due to Isaac's unique ability's he was able to pull through if someone barely.

Of course, now that his lie had been exposed the remaining cohort members who heard Kai's plea for Isaac to reconsider had also put the dots together.

That was why he was now currently in a room laying down on the sofa.

Beside him was a chair with a woman whose beauty can only be said to be Awakened.

Ms. Calfet.

Her eyes were calm and tranquil.

Her hair had been pulled into a bun that seemed professionally done.

She wore slightly casual, but most definitely workplace friendly cloths.

Turning towards me, a warm smile, graced her face.

"Now Master Isaac what would you like to talk about".
