Chapter 2 - Genji.

[The dawn of a new morning, in the bustling City of Kyoto.]

As the sun shone through the windows of a medium sized apartment in the city, several people could be seen surrounding a certain trio.

This trio consisted of a woman laying on a bed in labor, a midwife taking her through the process of delivery and a man sitting close to the woman, holding her hand tightly.

"Slowly, honey! Slowly!"

The man dried the sweat running down his face as he looked at the state his wife was in.

Pregnancy was no joke.

The woman screamed as she struggled to push the baby out. The situation seemed to be progressing slowly but surely.

"He's coming, honey. Our boy is almost here! Just a little bit more! A little bit more!"

The man encouraged his wife as much as he could, even though she squeezed his hand so tightly it felt as if it was about to break.

A few minutes later, the midwife suddenly let out a cry.

"It's almost here miss! Just one more push!"

"AHHHHHH!!"

The woman gripped her husband's hands as tightly as she could and pushed with all her might, waiting to see the state of her newborn baby.

Her eyes were blurry, but with the little strength she had left, she barely managed to open them to see her bouncing baby boy.

"AHHHHHH!!"

To her shock, she heard numerous bloodcurdling screams instead.

The midwife ran away and braced herself onto the wall as she stared at the thing she just delivered.

"A-a-a- brain?!"

The man was stumped, befuddled and distraught at the same time.

How could his wife deliver just an organ as their baby?

At this point, the woman had already passed out from the sight.

In fear, the husband grabbed the brain and ran out of his front door as quickly as possible.

'I'll need to make up a story when she wakes up but, my wife can't see this! Her spirit will be shattered!'

The man turned down the nearest alleyway ,found a trash can and dumped the brain inside of it with no hesitation.

Whatever that was, it wasn't part of his family and he wasn't responsible for it.

As soon as he dropped it in, the man shut the lid and ran back to his home, desperate to salvage the situation.

Unbeknownst to him though, the brain wasn't dead. For the last 9 months, it had it's own thoughts and could see what was happening in the world. This was what remained of Hans after he was injected with the mysterious liquid.

After experiencing an immense amount of pain, everything went blank and he suddenly woke up in the form of a psychic brain within the belly of a human woman.

It was a strange experience to say the least.

'That was...expected. Then I guess I can go along with the little plan I thought up just in case this happened. I need to find a body to sustain myself. Now let's see...'

The brain suddenly started upwards, pushing the lid off the trash can with what seemed to be...telekinetic power.

Immediately, Hans floated up into the air, as far away from human eyes as he possibly could.

'I predict that it might be few hours before i run out of power to keep myself afloat. I need to find a body, and fast. Preferably one that was around the age of my old body...'

Hans floated around Kyoto for a while before he finally saw someone he was interested in.

There was a young man with messy black hair, pale skin, a tattoo of a crescent moon under his left eye with a slightly above average build.

But what about the young man caught his attention?

Why did his senses pull him toward that young man?

For now, even he didn't know. He just felt like this would be a 'good choice.'

Unfortunately, though, the boy was still alive and he had his whole life ahead of him.

If Hans took his body now, his mind would be destroyed and even his soul extinguished.

But...

'I don't know how, but I'll find a way to repay you or your family in the future.'

Hans carefully sensed the boys actions, waiting for him to split off from his friends or for them to enter an alleyway.

'I just need you to make one mistake...'

The boy seemed to be going to a school around the area as many teenagers on the street wore the same uniform. He needed to be sure not to alert any of them.

About an hour passed before Hans saw a real opportunity.

The group of friends were eating snacks as they walked down the streets. So, after a 3 round bout of rock-paper-scissors, the boy was the one who lost and he had to go down a dark alleyway to throw away the wrappers in the trash can.

From his friends' laughter, Hans sensed that this wasn't the first time he was in this position.

Unfortunately, it would be his last.

Before the boy could build up the courage to enter the alleyway, Hans took the opportunity to float down between the black trash bags and hide there.

'Just a little closer, lad.'

The boy took a deep breath, looked resolutely down the dark alleyway and ran through, shouting profusely to give a faux boost to his courage.

The minute the boy got close to the trash can, he suddenly felt something like...little hands or fingers moving around his brain.

It felt like it had penetrated deep into the crevices of his mind. He crouched down and gripped his head, trying his best to stop this feeling. But it was to no avail. It only got worse.

'Tch. It takes so much more power to scour someone's mind when I try to be precise. This power has a destructive nature to it. Hm, I'll need to be careful. It pains me to do this but...'

Hans transformed his cerebral form into pure, psychic energy and rushed into the boys body through every orifice.

The process was so fast that the boys conciousness and soul were purged almost immediately.

'For the past 9 months, I've imagined different ways this would work, but to think it was so fast and...destructive. It didn't even give me a chance to store his conciousness somewhere else. I need to get a handle on this power soon.'

A few moments later, the process was complete. All of the energy entered the boys brain, violently reforming it into one that could handle the power that was within Hans.

As of this moment, Genji Fujiwara, the name of the original owner of the body, no longer existed. His memories, every experience he had grasped since birth and even his future.

Everything now belonged to Hans.

'As a sign of gratitude, I'll keep his name. Genji doesn't sound so bad.'

After taking his body, Hans, now Genji, slowly started walking out of the alleyway. Every step was deliberate.

'So...this is how it feels to walk. Such a simple thing. But yet I appreciate it so much. Being paralyzed from the waist down since birth...what could my family have done to deserve such a cursed child?'

Genji was so enamored by the simple act of walking that he went past his group of 'friends' that were waiting for him at the entrance to the alleyway.

"Uh...Fujiwara?"

Genji suddenly stopped as he looked back, the voice pulling him out of his stupor.

BEEP! BEEP!

The modern day was truly wonderous. Even though his attention was taken by the voice that called out to him, he couldn't help but marvel at the towering skyscrapers and the technology scattered everywhere.

"Ah. Kaito, what did you want?"

Kaito, the young boy standing in front of Genji, stared at him as he held a backpack in his hands.

"Hm, Fuji fuji, you've changed. It seems you can finally look me in the eyes. I guess the rumors were right. That alleyway is where boys become men."

Kaito threw the backpack at Genji and said, "Let's go boys! We're gonna be late for school if we don't hurry up! Especially you, Fuji fuji. Miss Utahime said you're gonna get detention again if you keep being late."

Genji caught the backpack and put it on, chuckling as he did so.

'For now, I'll play things by ear. I'm curious about what this world has to offer.'
