Ash and his harem resumed their journey toward Violet City with high spirits and determination burning in their hearts. The first gym badge of the Johto League for both Ash and Giselle was within reach, and the group chatted animatedly about possible strategies, team matchups, and the adventures that awaited them. Pikachu perched confidently on Ash's shoulder, while the rest of the Pokémon enjoyed the walk.
As they walked, a heartwarming scene unfolded among the younger members of the team. Ash's female Chikorita, full of energy and confidence after her recent capture, bounded playfully toward Melody's shiny male Chikorita. The shiny Chikorita Melody's very first Pokémon had been obtained through a special exchange where Ash traded valuable Dynamax and Gigantamax data.
The shiny variant had been an outcast in his original group due to his unique golden-green coloration and leaf, leading to deep-seated low self-esteem. For a long time, he remained shy and withdrawn, but thanks to the warmth of Ash, his harem, and their Pokémon, he had slowly started coming out of his shell.
"Chiko! Chikorita!" Ash's female Chikorita called encouragingly, nudging the shiny male with her leaf and inviting him to play. The shiny Chikorita hesitated at first, glancing around shyly, but the gentle encouragement from the girls and the friendly aura of the team helped.
He let out a soft "Chiko…" and began chasing after her in a playful game of tag across the grassy path. The two rolled around, batting leaves at each other and practicing gentle Vine Whip swings.
The shiny male gradually grew bolder, his eyes lighting up with joy as he started initiating play, tackling his new friend lightly and laughing in Pokémon fashion. Melody watched with a proud, affectionate smile.
"He's really opening up! Thank you, Ash. Your Chikorita is helping him so much."
The moment warmed everyone's hearts and reinforced the strong bonds within their growing family.
The path eventually wound through scenic hills and forests before opening up to a wide river gorge spanned by what should have been a sturdy bridge. As they approached, the group slowed to a stop.
The bridge was severely damaged large sections of wood and rope lay shattered below in the rushing river, with only a few precarious planks remaining. High above, a fierce Steel/Flying-type Pokémon circled the area like a predator.
The Skarmory's metallic body gleamed menacingly under the sun, its razor-sharp wings slicing through the air as it let out piercing screeches. It dove aggressively at any travelers attempting to cross the remnants of the bridge or find a way around, terrorizing passersby and forcing them to retreat in fear.
"That Skarmory is out of control!" Misty exclaimed, pointing upward. "It's blocking the entire route to Violet City!"
Sabrina's eyes narrowed as she sensed the Pokémon's aggressive aura. "It's very territorial. We'll need to be careful."
Before the group could decide on their next move, a woman appeared soaring gracefully through the sky. She was carried aloft by a lively swarm of Ledyba, her long scarf fluttering behind her like a banner.
The sight was beautiful and serene until the Skarmory locked its sharp gaze onto her. Seeing the airborne traveler as an intruder in its domain, the Steel-type let out a furious cry and shot forward like a living arrow, wings gleaming with lethal intent.
"Not today!" Ash shouted without hesitation.
"Fearow, I choose you!"
In a brilliant flash of light, Ash's powerful Fearow burst forth. The majestic Normal/Flying-type spread its broad wings wide and unleashed a thunderous battle cry that echoed across the gorge, challenging the Skarmory directly.
The two aerial warriors faced off in the open sky, sizing each other up. Fearow's sharp eyes locked onto its opponent, while Skarmory's metallic feathers bristled with aggression. The battle began in earnest as Skarmory initiated with a powerful Steel Wing attack, its wings glowing with steel energy as it dove like a fighter jet.
"Fearow, Agility!" Ash commanded quickly.
Fearow's body glowed with speed-enhancing energy. It became a blur in the air, easily dodging the initial Steel Wing and positioning itself for a counter.
"Now, Aerial Ace!"
Fearow streaked forward with unerring precision, slashing across Skarmory's side.
The impact produced bright sparks as beak met hardened steel. Skarmory recoiled but quickly retaliated with Air Cutter, launching a barrage of razor-sharp wind blades. Fearow weaved and rolled through the storm with masterful aerial agility, though a few blades grazed its wings, drawing small sparks.
The girls and their Pokémon cheered enthusiastically from the ground. "Go, Fearow!" Misty shouted. "Show it what you've got!" Pikachu, Eevee, Togepi, Chikorita, and the shiny male Chikorita added their voices, jumping with excitement.
The two Chikorita paused their play to watch the epic sky battle in awe.
Skarmory, angered by the successful hit, ascended rapidly and used Sand-Attack to kick up a cloud of dust and debris mixed with small rocks. Normally this would obscure vision, but Fearow's Keen Eye ability kept its accuracy perfect. Ash grinned confidently.
"Drill Peck, let's go!"
Fearow's beak spun like a high-speed drill as it rocketed upward. The collision with Skarmory created a spectacular shower of sparks and a resounding metallic clang that echoed through the gorge. Skarmory shook off the blow and countered fiercely with Metal Claw, raking at Fearow's body in close-quarters combat.
The two birds tangled in mid-air, trading blows in a whirlwind of wings, claws, and determination. Feathers and metallic scales flew as they broke apart.
Fearow broke away using a burst of speed and followed up with Fury Attack a relentless series of pecks that hammered Skarmory's armored body. Each strike landed with precision, gradually wearing down the Steel-type's tough exterior plating.
Skarmory responded by diving into a powerful Body Slam, using its heavy metallic mass to crash into Fearow and send it spiraling toward the gorge wall.
"Fearow!" Ash called out worriedly, his voice steady but concerned.
But his loyal partner recovered mid-fall with impressive resilience, using Agility once more to regain control and momentum. It shot back into the fray with Pursuit, chasing Skarmory from behind and landing a heavy hit that staggered the Steel-type. The battle raged on with breathtaking intensity.
Skarmory unleashed Spikes across the aerial battlefield, forcing Fearow to navigate a dangerous minefield of floating hazardous points. Fearow dodged most but took a few grazing hits, which only fueled its fighting spirit.
"Keep pressing the advantage!" Ash encouraged.
"Aerial Ace into Drill Peck combo!"
Fearow executed the sequence flawlessly.
The Aerial Ace set up perfect positioning, allowing the spinning Drill Peck to strike a vulnerable joint in Skarmory's left wing. A critical hit triggered by the Sniper ability amplified the damage significantly, causing Skarmory to screech in pain and lose altitude momentarily while struggling to maintain flight.
The Steel-type refused to yield. It retaliated with a furious barrage of Steel Wing attacks, slamming into Fearow repeatedly in a display of raw defensive power.
The girls gasped as Fearow was battered across the sky, tumbling through several loops, but the Elite-level bird endured, its maximum intimacy with Ash giving it unbreakable resolve and strength. Fearow countered with another extended Fury Attack, pecking rapidly at the same weakened spot on the wing, creating visible cracks in the armor.
The duel reached its climactic peak as both Pokémon climbed higher into the sky, becoming small silhouettes against the clouds. Skarmory attempted one final, desperate all-out assault combining Air Cutter with Metal Claw in a spinning, high-speed dive aimed at overwhelming Fearow. The air howled with the force of the attack.
Fearow met it head-on with perfect timing and Ash's precise guidance. It unleashed its most powerful Drill Peck yet, the spinning beak driving directly into Skarmory's defenses with tremendous force.
A massive burst of sparks and energy exploded outward like fireworks as Skarmory was driven back, spiraling uncontrollably downward before crashing heavily onto a rocky outcrop on the far side of the gorge, exhausted and defeated at last.
The spectators erupted into loud cheers and applause. Ash wasted no time. He threw a Poké Ball with confidence. The ball engulfed the fallen Skarmory in red light, shaking once… twice… three times before clicking shut. "Alright! We caught a Skarmory!"
The woman and her Ledyba descended safely to the ground. She hurried over to the group, bowing deeply with sincere gratitude. "Thank you so much! You and your incredible Fearow saved me and all the other travelers today. I'm Arielle."
Arielle explained that she could help them cross the gorge one at a time using her obedient Ledyba swarm, which she directed skillfully with a special whistle.
The process was smooth and enjoyable, with each member of the harem taking turns soaring through the air and admiring the stunning view from above. Ash went last, giving his newly strengthened team a proud look before recalling Fearow for a well-earned rest.
Once safely across, Arielle shared more about her daily work. "I use my Ledyba to pollinate apple orchards and carefully harvest the ripest fruits. It's peaceful yet important work that supports the local farmers."
Intrigued by the idea of helping, Ash sent out his Heracross to assist the Ledyba. However, the Bug/Fighting-type immediately ignored the flowers and instead happily drilled into a nearby maple tree to suck out the sweet sap. Ash sweat-dropped in embarrassment as his harem burst into laughter at the comical sight.
"Heracross… we're supposed to be helping with pollination," Ash sighed, which only made the girls laugh harder. Even the two Chikorita seemed amused, with the shiny male letting out a shy but happy giggle.
Arielle smiled warmly at the wholesome and lighthearted scene and thanked the group by presenting them with a large basket overflowing with fresh, juicy apples and other ripe fruits as a token of her appreciation.
With full baskets, lifted spirits, and stronger bonds, Ash and his companions waved goodbye to Arielle and continued their journey onward to Violet City, ready for whatever challenges the Johto region had in store next.
