Chapter 288 - A Certain Magical Sister
Akeno leaned her head on Mahiro's chest and blinked at Rias, her expression playful.
Rias, however, saw through her teasing provocation.
As Mahiro's fiancée, she hadn't yet had the chance to embrace her newly returned partner.
Yet Akeno had beaten her to it.
This was unacceptable.
Rias glared at Akeno.
"Akeno, let go. Stop clinging to Mahiro. This isn't proper," Rias said, her voice stern as she scolded her friend.
"Rias is angry," Akeno teased, sticking out her tongue.
She gave Mahiro a gentle squeeze, rubbed her cheek against him twice, then reluctantly released him.
"Alright, Rias, he's all yours. Go ahead and recharge with Mahiro energy," Akeno said with a sly smile, stepping aside with an exaggerated gesture to make way for Rias.
Rias's lips twitched.
She glanced at Mahiro with a mix of longing and restraint but ultimately held back.
Although Mahiro had spent over a month in Danmachi, only five days had passed in here.
While Rias missed him, her feelings hadn't reached the point of throwing herself into his arms like a lovestruck girl.
Raised as a noble princess, Rias had been taught etiquette and composure since childhood, which tempered her actions.
Only after a long absence would she allow herself to act as impulsively as Akeno.
Akeno, as Rias's bestie, knew this well and used it to tease her.
"Sona-san, care to join in?" Akeno asked, covering her mouth with a chuckle as she turned to Sona.
"No, thank you," Sona replied, her lips twitching as she glanced at Mahiro, her face blushed slightly.
"Alright, Akeno, I'm really not in the mood to bicker with you right now."
"I have a headache," Rias said, looking exhausted.
She sighed...
"It's rare to see you like this, Rias," Mahiro said, then glanced at Sona curiously.
"And with Sona, too. I'm dying to know what could trouble both of you so much that you're hiding out here."
"You'd never guess, Mahiro-kun," Akeno said, her face breaking into a mischievous grin as she relished Rias and Sona's discomfort.
"I found out today is Class Observation Day, and the school's open to student's parents," Mahiro said.
"Is this about your parents?"
"I also sensed several Maou-Class presence in the school. They must be from your families, right?" he added.
Rias and Sona nodded silently.
Their family had eagerly attended Kuoh Academy's Class Observation Day, showing none of the gravitas expected of superior person.
Despite Rias and Sona's attempts to dissuade them, their efforts had been futile.
"Ara ara, as expected of Mahiro-kun. You figured it out," Akeno said, smiling with mock surprise.
"As a student myself, I know parent events can be torture," Mahiro said with a shrug.
"If parents see how you act at school, it could haunt you forever."
"But Rias, Sona—shouldn't you two be above those worries?" he continued.
Both Rias and Sona were exemplary students at Kuoh Academy, practically perfect in the eyes of their peers.
They were the epitome of the ideal student, the kind other parents might compare their children to.
"I wish I didn't have these worries," Rias said, sighing helplessly.
"It's just my brother and father…"
"If my sister were just here for a normal event, I wouldn't mind," Sona added, her face clouded with an indescribable expression, as if recalling painful memories.
She trailed off mid-sentence.
"Mahiro, you probably don't know what Sirzechs-sama and Serafall-sama are like in private," Akeno said with a grin, enjoying the moment.
"If you did, you'd understand why Rias and Sona are like this."
"So you two are hiding out here?" Mahiro asked, a mischievous smile tugging at his lips.
He recalled: Sirzechs and Serafall were proper siscon, but their personalities could be… eccentric.
Sirzechs often doted on Rias excessively, while Serafall was an avid cosplay enthusiast with a magical girl obsession.
Without knowing their status, no one would guess they were beings ruling the Underworld.
"I'm so over this. Why isn't it over yet?" Rias groaned, glancing at the bright, sunny sky.
Her face darkened, and she looked utterly drained.
"I just hope my sister doesn't cause a scene at school."
Sona longed for the day to end peacefully, without any reports of Serafall's antics circulating around Kuoh Academy.
Otherwise, she'd be in for a massive headache.
"I checked your classrooms earlier and didn't see Sirzechs or Serafall," Mahiro said with a smile.
"They might already be looking for you two around the school since they haven't found you."
Rias's expression shifted to one of alarm.
"Sona, found you!" a vibrant, cheerful voice called out from behind the group.
At the sound, Sona froze, as if caught red-handed.
Her body stiffened, and she slowly turned her head toward the source of the voice, her eyes wide with apprehension.
