Chapter 15 - Episode: 5 [The Secret]

"Get me down! It was just a plate, man."

Bentend was upended, his legs tied with the rope that was fastened to a branch. The kids laughed at him.

Calten encouraged one of them to blindfold someone and give him a stick to beat Bentend.

"Don't you think he's going a bit too far?" Goun asked me; I had my hands folded, staring blankly at Bentend.

"He requires discipline." I said.

The director laughed and said, "Just a pretext; there's something else you're mad about."

"Tell me, Director, what's the real reason you came here?" I asked; my expression turned grave.

There's no way the old man came here to see me; it was his pretext. Not only that, but he was too quick to appear here; it could be the use of those human-made wraps.

Nithim rubbed his lips, and his eyes were on the shrieking Bentend. There was a distress on his face.

"We have detected a strange signal from the wrap." He paused, pondering, and said, "A strange movement from the wraps; what we can feel is that something is coming; we don't know when, but it can happen at any moment."

Wraps were strange things; they connected two worlds. Perhaps there might be a monster that could be too strong for the wraps to handle. Making them react strangely.

It was a theory circulating in my mind.

"Can we enter the other side of the world?" I asked Nithim; I was curious.

Just like how monsters enter this world, there should be another way around.

"We have never tried that before, considering it would be too dangerous. Moreover, it was an unnecessary act; every connection has a different world with our world."

It was plausible, unlike monsters that might find this world a new home while never minding abandoning their previous home. Humans can't do that, as the other world could be dangerous for them compared to their comfortable home.

But that danger of this world was more than that of other worlds.

As our conversation continued, I asked him, "I need two wraps without the interference of anybody else except my team."

"What for?" Nithim asked.

"I'm going to break into another world." I said it as seriously as I could.

"There's no way of returning, no." He began to ruminate, "Maybe there is."

The problem was obvious: the wrap would close once the gap was cleared of the monsters or, more specifically, the queer energy emitted by the sentries or the monsters on the other side, died or was not counted. That's when you come out before the time. If the times ends, it forcibly closes.

Furthermore, there was no telling when the next time the wrap will open up to the other world connected with the earth.

"I might have an answer to that. If you like to hear my suggestion." Bentend said, smirking, "Only if you let me down; then I will tell."

With my sword I hacked the rope; Bentend fell headfirst on the ground. "Owe: could have been more gentle."

Bentend got up and patted his clothes. "Instead of relying on the naturally occurring gap, why don't we create our own gap and link it with the world?

His theoretical explanation was simple. Just like how they made an artificial wrap within a gap connected to their research area, we can somehow create a small passage gap between the other side wrap directly and a second connection with the other world.

"If we have energy available, as it requires, we can keep it open as long as we want."

This was possible, "But it's not as easy as it seemed; first we have to talk to Edarward," he was talking about the dwarf.

[It's possible. Who gave you this idea? And what's the point of it?] On the other side of the phone was Edarward.

"It was the new kid, the man with Khan."

[Some wit he has; better bring them back with you. I'm also testing some wrap.]

As Nithim cut the call, "Better we get going; what do you think? You have a lot of work left behind."

"What about him?" With his thumb, Calten pointed at Goun.

"Better come; I have enough money to solve the problem," he laughed, before getting up. "But what exactly do you want to do inside the outer world?"

It was curious about those worlds; perhaps there could be a clue to find a way back to my own world. But if there was no way I wanted to search for what these other worlds are like.

"I want to end the route that connects their world but before that,"

I needed to eat something.
