ROBIN'S POV

I should've just stayed in bed.

One second, I was enjoying tormenting some gossiping locals with Rosalie, and the next…

There she was.

Tiny. Brown-eyed. Brunette.

Bella Swan.

Staring straight at me with wide eyes after watching me sprint across the street at vampire speed to stop some middle-aged man from decking Renee.

Oh, for fuck's sake.

My entire brain went blank. If I had fur, it would've been standing straight up.

The universe hates me.

"Robin?" Rosalie's voice snapped me back.

I spun around so fast I nearly tripped over my own feet. "We have a problem!"

Rosalie raised a perfectly arched brow. "Unless it's about my car arriving early, I don't want to hear it."

I grabbed her arm, dragging her away from the scene. "No, seriously! That little girl over there—she saw me!"

Rosalie blinked. "...And?"

"And?! I just ran across the street faster than a cheetah on Red Bull! She saw it, Rosalie!"

Rosalie glanced lazily in Bella's direction. "She's six. Just… I don't know, compel her to forget or something. Kids have the attention span of goldfish."

Oh. If only it were that simple.

See, I couldn't exactly explain to my wife that compulsion wouldn't work on Bella. Or that she's the human equivalent of a bloodhound when it comes to sniffing out weird shit.

Because that would mean explaining how I know all this. Which would lead to the whole reincarnation thing. And telling Rosalie I have memories of a timeline where her turning was more gruesome had I not intervened, and she was with Emmett… yeah, not ideal.

I swallowed hard. "I… don't think compelling her will work."

Rosalie gave me a look. "Why? Is she wearing garlic perfume or something?"

"Ha-ha. No. She just… has that look. Like she's stubborn."

Rosalie folded her arms. "Robin, she's six. What's she gonna do, write a report on you?"

Yes. Yes, she would. In crayon. With details.

But I couldn't say that.

Rosalie sighed. "Fine. We'll leave."

I almost dropped to my knees in relief. "Thank—"

"After my car gets here."

I stared. Open-mouthed.

"Rosalie."

"My Bel Air, Robin."

I screamed internally.

~~

For the next week, I became the most paranoid vampire in Arizona.

We didn't go near that part of town again. Hell, we didn't even go to the same gas stations. I practically had a radar up for tiny brunettes.

Luckily, Bella and her mother didn't cross our paths again. Probably because I was avoiding them like they were the plague.

And finally—finally—the car arrived.

Rosalie was practically glowing as the dealer handed over the keys. She circled the Bel Air like it was a newborn baby.

I stood a few feet away, arms crossed, still mentally recovering.

I watched her lovingly run her fingers over the polished hood.

"We're keeping that car as one of the collectibles," I muttered. "That thing nearly drained my lifespan from stress. And I'm basically immortal."

Rosalie didn't even look up.

Totally worth it to her.

For me?

I was just glad to be getting the hell out of Arizona.

Bella's POV

Mom said we were going to the store for "grown-up errands." Which, in kid language, meant boring.

So, I wandered.

Not far! Just... far enough to avoid watching Mom argue with the store clerk again.

That's when I heard them.

Two women across the street.

One had long, shiny blonde hair and glowing golden eyes. She looked like a doll—too perfect, like she belonged in a glass case.

But the other one...

White hair. Pale skin. Eyes the color of cotton candy.

I knew her.

She was the lady who saved me.

The one who stopped those bad men from taking me outside the store a while ago.

I never forgot her face.

She scared me then. She scared me now.

But I couldn't stop staring.

"Oh my God, they have to be escorts. No one looks that good without being paid for it."

I blinked.

What's an escort?

The voices belonged to two women, pretending not to stare at the white-haired lady and her friend.

The pale lady laughed, wiping her eye like it was the funniest thing she'd ever heard.

But the blonde looked offended. Like someone insulted her entire bloodline.

"How vicious," the blonde huffed. "Women turning on other women like that. When do you think that toxic feminism phase you predicted will start?"

The white-haired one grinned, leaning closer. "Darling, let them be. Can you honestly say you wouldn't be seething with envy if you saw us from their perspective?"

She wrapped her arms around the blonde's waist and turned her so they both stared right at the gossiping ladies.

Instant silence.

I watched as both of them smirked like they just won a prize.

The gossiping women turned bright red.

The white-haired lady giggled. "See? It's a public service. We give them something to aspire to."

"Cruel," the blonde said, but she was smiling too.

"Beautifully cruel."

I was frozen, just watching.

Then the air shifted.

Like a cold breeze, but heavier.

I turned and saw her.

Mom.

Getting screamed at by some angry blonde woman, loud enough for people down the street to hear.

A man stood behind the blonde, looking... smug.

Then the blonde lady slapped my mom.

Hard.

I felt my whole chest tighten.

I wanted to run to her, but I couldn't move.

But then—

She moved.

The white-haired lady.

She didn't walk.

She disappeared.

One second she was hugging the blonde doll-woman.

The next, she was right next to Mom.

Her hand shot up, grabbing the man's wrist mid-swing.

"Uh-uh," she said, voice cold as ice. "We're not doing that."

Mom's eyes went huge. Mine too.

The man tried pulling away. Nothing happened.

"You don't want to do this, sweetheart."

And then she smiled.

"Oh, honey," she purred, squeezing his arm just a little, "I could snap you in half and still have energy for a jog."

I believed her.

Every word.

I couldn't move. Couldn't breathe.

Then she turned.

Slowly.

And her pink eyes locked on me.

She saw me.

And she knew.

I wasn't supposed to see that.

My whole body went cold.

I ducked behind the car, hands shaking.

She saved me before.

But now…

Now, I wasn't sure if that was a good thing.

Renee's POV

Why did I think moving to Arizona would solve my problems?

Oh, right—because I'm an idiot.

And now here I am, getting screamed at by some woman whose name I don't even know.

"HOMEWRECKER!"

Oh, for God's sake.

I didn't even look at her husband. Men weren't on my radar right now. I was too busy trying to keep Bella from wandering off into traffic.

But here this woman was, shrieking like I personally burned her house down.

Her husband—midlife crisis in human form—just stood behind her, arms crossed, looking like he deserved a trophy for being a walking cliché.

And then—

SLAP.

My head snapped to the side, and my cheek burned.

Oh.

Okay.

We're doing this now.

I barely had time to process it before she raised her hand again.

But then—

Someone caught it.

The blonde lady? No.

The white-haired one.

The same woman who saved Bella from being dragged off by those creeps a few weeks ago.

Wow.

She was fast. I hadn't seen her move—she was just there, catching the man's wrist like it was nothing.

Her eyes were fierce. Cold, even.

"Uh-uh," she said, her voice like ice. "We're not doing that."

And the way she said it—God, she was so beautiful, even in the middle of a confrontation. The perfect blend of strength and elegance. How could someone that stunning be so powerful?

Her hand around his wrist was like a vice. He couldn't get away. He looked terrified.

I swear, I just stood there, frozen, watching as she effortlessly handled the situation.

"You don't want to do this, sweetheart."

Her voice dropped. Purring, almost.

It was like the world went still for a second.

"Oh, honey," she continued, squeezing just enough to make him flinch, "I could snap you in half and still have energy for a jog."

Damn.

I'm pretty sure I was staring, but I couldn't look away. She was gorgeous. So strong, and so graceful. I wasn't even sure if I could breathe at this point.

I've always been sure of my sexuality, but right now, I was not sure anymore.

I might be gay… More like I can be gay for her.

I shook myself out of it when she turned her head slowly, like she was sensing something else in the air.

And there she was.

Bella.

Peeking out from behind a car.

Wide-eyed.

Shit.

She'd seen everything.

The white-haired woman's face immediately shifted. It wasn't anger or smugness. It was panic.

And all of a sudden, I wasn't sure if she was a hero or something else entirely.

But man, she was so beautiful.

~~

AN: Honestly, I was tempted to make them a thing... Yeah I'm sick that way. HeHe.. but I did not.. sooo... Imagine this.. Robin is Edward's baby sister, Renee is Bella's momma.. If Renee and Robin became a thing or like a mom to Bella... he he he...
